WholesaleInternet down again!!!
Posted by Trung Kien, 08-23-2013, 09:57 PM |
Both my servers at WSI are down.
2 times with in one month.
Anyone else having issues?
EDITED: Back online
The monitor XXX is back UP (OK) (It was down for 19 minutes and 36 seconds).
Hope it won't happen again. |

Same issue, did a ticket. This is getting to be a problem.
Edited to add this was ticket reply:
We are aware of the issue and are looking into it.

We are affected by this issue as well. They are down for 15 minutes already. Let's hope they resolve it as soon as possible. |

My server is offline too, hope there isn't another fiber cut... |

I'm up with Datashack at Oak Tower. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-23-2013, 10:01 PM |
I agree! Second time in two months and took over 5 hours for them to fix the last one. Reset the server instead of checking connectivity first. Because of this took much longer to resolve than it should have.
May also have to look at an alternative. Have never had so many downtimes or for so long as I've had with WSI. |

My servers down as well. I'm not happy that this is the second time this has happened and I guess this will be last month with them. |

Back online for me. |

Server back online for me. I was praying this would not be another hours long wait and lets hope it keeps on the right track! |

Jesus Christ LOL |

Back online for us too. Apparently it was a network issue, because the uptime command indicates that the servers weren't shut down/rebooted. |

We had a card take a crap on us affecting a couple hundred servers. |

If I remember correctly, the last outage that lasted over 5 hours was not WSI's fault. I believe it was a third party crew cut some fibre outside of the building.
Can't really fault them for that.. Not something the magic 8 ball can predict. |

I wish it could. Yes, it was a fiber cut. Our first one. We're in the process of moving some stuff around so a hit like that won't take us out again. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-23-2013, 11:37 PM |
Last week it was a network card for 5 hours and now this and it's down again.
This is just getting very old. I don't blame the fiber cut, but two network card issues in about a week? |
Posted by Trung Kien, 08-23-2013, 11:41 PM |
It is down again. Too much downtime for this month. |
Posted by NetworkPanda, 08-23-2013, 11:42 PM |
Down again now. OK, already tired with them. Moving away as soon as possible to another company. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-23-2013, 11:47 PM |
It was a network card last week, too. What's the odds of 2 network cards failing on the same bank of servers within a week? |
Posted by 8inghost, 08-23-2013, 11:48 PM |
Yea.. I'm down too. Tech support said:
"We are aware of this issue and have a tech looking into this and will update you
as soon as we can, thank you for your patience.

At least a response was made in under a minute.. I've been really happy even with the fiber cut.. I can't complain about too much as the price is unmatchable.
Thank goodness this time it's during a time in which my clients aren't busy in their offices trying to send each other email. |

Make them 3 cards in a week, because they are down again now. Already 1 hour down today so far... |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-23-2013, 11:49 PM |
Though my patience is wearing thin. Have never had this many outages with any company before. Have been hosting my sites on a dedicated server since 2008 and before going to WSI, I had less than 3 or 4 outages total. Been with WSI for about 1 year and have had nearly double that. |

Back online for me guys! |
Posted by Dedispec, 08-23-2013, 11:57 PM |
Thanks for at least keeping us updated Aaron, for not having any major outages until last month I'm not to worried
Thankfully it wasn't AT&T drillers again (although I'm sure Aaron would chase them away if they eve came near the facility again) |
Posted by Ilya74, 08-24-2013, 12:01 AM |
Yeah, thank you. The best thing is that Aaron's team always responds. |
Posted by WII-Aaron, 08-24-2013, 01:04 AM |
We are still experiencing intermittent issues. The card swap didn't work. We're trying to isolate it. |
Posted by WII-Aaron, 08-24-2013, 01:04 AM |
This issue is affecting about 600 servers which is actually a small subset of our total network. Still annoying for the people affected, I know. |

2 servers are down again. |
Posted by iPole, 08-31-2013, 11:04 AM |
Since last 10 minutes I am unable to access my servers in the second data center. |
Posted by WII-Aaron, 08-31-2013, 11:12 AM |
We have a single row of servers that's gone down. We're looking into it now. |
Posted by iPole, 08-31-2013, 11:22 AM |
Is there any ETA for this, since it appears to be an internal issue this time? |
Posted by Trung Kien, 08-31-2013, 11:34 AM |
It seem that after start selling 19$ Server Grab Bags, WII servers become less stable.
No matter whatever reason is, 4 down-times with in one-month is too much for any provider. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 11:35 AM |
NO offense to Aaron or WSI, but this is getting old. Since the fiber was cut (not WSI's fault), my server has been down 3 times with some of the outages lasting for multiple hours. It's a network card here, a cable issue there, a bla bla bla issue. It's getting old. I realize that they are a budget provider, but they are here to provide a service and aren't living up to providing that service reliably. If they need to increase their pricing structure to assure more reliability, I'm all for it. But this going down every few days or weeks is getting really old and frustrating! |
Posted by 8inghost, 08-31-2013, 11:42 AM |
This is starting to make me nervous. I know Aaron isn't choosing to do this so I'm confident that once the problems are resolved that service levels will resume to normal SLA levels. |
Posted by nutN2Lewz, 08-31-2013, 11:43 AM |
My server is presently down for the third time in a month. Beginning to regret going with WII. Aaron, you gotta improve reliability or you will lose customers like me. |

We have 3 server and all three r down again!!!!!!!!!!
This is too-much .............
Most probably they will lose us too ......... |
Posted by mainpipe, 08-31-2013, 12:36 PM |
This appears to have been a power issue. One of my servers was rebooted about 20 minutes ago and my other server is still down.
*** my second server just booted up. All is good. |
Posted by 8inghost, 08-31-2013, 12:39 PM |
Yeah. I notice the same thing with the server I was examining just now. |
Posted by Caton, 08-31-2013, 01:12 PM |
Mine was rebooted also....... |
Posted by nutN2Lewz, 08-31-2013, 01:18 PM |
Back up. I spent the past hour researching alternatives to WII. Considering OVH but going to them for something more reliable seems a bit risky too. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 05:42 PM |
Also looking for an alternative. If anyone finds something, let me know. |
Posted by mike-fbsd, 08-31-2013, 05:53 PM |
My server went down almost 7 hours ago.
Not including today's event, my server has been down 11 hours and 47 minutes this month |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 06:29 PM |
I'm looking for an alternative. I can triple what I'm paying for WSI, but looking for a dedi host that offers DirectAdmin. That's harder to find. Don't want to get a separate license. Adds to the cost. |
Posted by ryguy222, 08-31-2013, 06:43 PM |
^You could try datashack. All of our gear is over there and not a single blip since the fibercut, even though DS gets its bandwidth from WSI.
Although this doesn't sound like a huge issue at WSI if its only one row of servers, while our gear was at WSI we had very good uptime, only a handful of outages over a 2 year period. Although WSI and OVH have similar pricing, WSI overall brings more value to the table than OVH ever could, on grounds of support, and uptime. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 06:49 PM |
Uptime has been a joke since the fiber cut. Excuses, excuses is all we get. My server has been down over 8 hours the past month NOT including the fiber cut. It's a total of 4 outages in one month. Not sure what the issues have been--too many excuses to remember and they say it only affects X number of servers, but both of mine are always included in that number. Just looking for something more reliable. |
Posted by ryguy222, 08-31-2013, 06:52 PM |
Only 8 hours? That's not as bad as some other providers who are similarly priced.
BurstNet had some customers were seeing 3-4 days of outages, volume drive customers have seen up to a week of downtime.
If WSI isn't communicating with you enough, open a ticket and ask what all the fuss is about. Although I'm sure with it being labor day weekend things could be a bit slow. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 06:54 PM |
All they give is a generic, canned response. 8 hours is more than I'm used to with previous discount providers like Server Complete. I'm used to going months, if not years without downtime without paying more than $150/mo for a decent server. So 8 hours is a lot for me and my sites. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't all in the same darned month. |
Posted by Dedispec, 08-31-2013, 07:18 PM |
I have a few backup/project servers with WS and besides that fiber cut I haven't had any drops, great service and uptime, and of course it's pointless to get upset with Aaron/WS over the fiber cut even though it sucked
Guessing I got lucky to not be involved in this small outage... |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 08:19 PM |
Or the 3 others. I have no issues with the fiber cut. Not WSI's fault, but the others were internal issues. |
Posted by bdwebservices, 08-31-2013, 11:40 PM |
too much annoying looking for an alternative |
Posted by hD-Scott, 08-31-2013, 11:56 PM |
True, but it may be worth it not to have downtime. |
Posted by lifeisjustabout, 09-01-2013, 01:12 AM |
I hope Aaron solve these problems because it's really annoying my server was restarted. I tried best 4 top companies in WHT whatever you look at it you are gonna have outage 1-2 in a year no system %100 solid the question is are you going to give up $200 more monthly for others ? no one can beat wholesaleinternet prices. we just need to push for aaron to make solid network. |
Posted by hD-Scott, 09-01-2013, 11:31 AM |
You don't have to go up to a $200 server to get reliability. Just do your research. I've had no issues with WSI until this past august, but I can't open my email and see another outage report. 4 in one month is just not acceptable. |
Posted by zacharooni, 09-01-2013, 04:58 PM |
My server was rebooted somehow, but has otherwise been accessible for me. |
Posted by Chris-M, 09-01-2013, 06:05 PM |
For a reliable alternative try Server4You - we've had servers there for years, always very good service. |

It seems that the servers went down after a power failure, we didn't see any signs of graceful or forceful shutdown in the logs and our monitors. It wasn't an ordinary shutdown/reboot. And as a result of this sudden shutdown half of our customers' MySQL databases and tables were corrupted and unable to access for more than 1 hour after the server was powered on.
We configured mysqlcheck to run automatically on every boot, to fix the databases after such disasters by Wholesale Internet in the future... (although still not sure if we are going to renew our service with them or move to another provider) |
Posted by hD-Scott, 09-01-2013, 06:26 PM |

It depends, if there aren't any processes storing data to the MySQL databases at the moment of the power failure and there are processes only reading data, then the databases don't become corrupted. |
