Have you tried posting talking with Joe or sending anything through their ticket system?

Joe is active on these forums, and usually the support response times at Joe's DC are pretty good.

Yes I have. I have had communication with them and they temporarily fix the problem.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. What uptime levels do you expect at that price?

You get what you pay for applies for uptime too. Take a $6 month VPS with 512MB RAM. Let's say the server has 24GB RAM. 48 VMs on the carrier yields only $288/month per server before you take away any payment processing costs.

Doesn't leave much for hardware investment, let alone profit.

Well i am paying $20 bucks a month x 2 vps instances. So I pay $40 a month. These are vps's for clients. I would expect uptime of at least 98% and even with cheapo hosting. I may not have as many posts in this forum. However I manage about 11 dedicated servers, 15 shared hosting accounts and these 2 vps's so I know what to expect for the price..

Definitely going switch over to another vps at the $20-30 range per instance. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Jack,

Who have you already tried apart from Joe, this can help me with suggesting another provider to you - I can say that the VPS with stablehost are very good also.

Isn't it also an idea to create a couple of VPS on your dedicated servers or is this not an option?

For vps I have tried joes only. However I have some accounts with stablehost on their shared hosting and they are very good. One requirement for VPS is that they have directadmin and last time i checked stablehost does not provide it.

I have also tried/using hostgator, limestone, softlayer, amazon, mediatemple, ixwebhosting, bluehost, rackspace, dreamhost, and crocweb. I do some volume because I deal a lot with clients and I really hate getting called about uptime problems. I found that limestone best suits me for dedicated, and crocweb for cheap shared hosting. I just need find a good VPS host with directadmin.

Are you looking for a managed VPS solution or could you deal with BuyVM? BuyVM has great uptime for their prices.

Most managed VPS providers offer deals with cPanel included, why not go with a cPanel managed VPS?

1 week update: I got in contact with a tech at joesdatacenter.com and they fixed the uptime problem by statically binding the IP address of my instance to their outbound traffic server. I can say that I am more than satisified with this and will continue to stay on this VPS host.
So far, there have not been any hiccups.

This was not a issue effecting every customer and if you counted the down time from when the issue was reported to when it was fixed this number would probably be only a couple hours. We monitor our VPS nodes but unfortunately the issue was a routing issue only effecting certain ips from certain providers so even during the downtime it was limited to certain areas. That being said the customer is telling the truth about the amount of downtime he experienced so I'm not trying to deny that he had an issue. Also when it was not working it seemed that most people could not connect so even though it worked through some providers it was basically down from the customers stand point.

Nice job! Joe's Datacenter resolved the customer's issue AND accepted responsibility. Things happen... it's how you deal with them that matters.
