Webbycart is down / unreachable

Posted by tenletters, 02-28-2013, 02:46 PM
Does anyone know how to contact these people? Their whole business and hundreds (or probably thousands) of websites are down.

Try opening a support ticket, as it seems they have private whois.

Edit:
Maybe, they own the .net domain!

I would, except it's all down except their main site which came back up a few minutes ago. Can't get to the client portal, can't get to any way of contacting them.

I have posted on their facebook page and also sent a message on twitter.

They must all be busy with other things rather than communicating with their customers.

Also, try sending a PM to WebbyCart.

Good idea! Thanks!

I received an email response saying they are working on it. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone else is interested. The exact email:

"Hi,

We will update you via email.

We are working to get everything back up on our side.

Regards"

I used to use them for Backups and to say the least, I ran away after 2-3 months.

Posted by LampNetworks, 02-28-2013, 05:11 PM
I'm also having problems, the last 4 hourly backups have failed:

ssh: Could not resolve hostname Name or service not known
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: unexplained error (code 255)

Posted by tenletters, 02-28-2013, 05:32 PM
I'm getting emails from them. 3 so far in response to my queries. But unfortunately, all email contact has been "We will keep you updated". No detail and no estimated time until up and running.

I have staff coming in to work to sit around and wait for ..... hours or days or weeks..?

I think I need to shift my website to AWS or something similar.

I've been with them for over 3 years for backups.....they've always been great.

Outages happen.....that's the nature of the business....no doubt they'll have it under control shortly.

I hope you are right. I just wish they'd find the time to tell us what's going on and some rough time estimate.

It seems they've been down for about 4-5 hours. It must be something pretty serious. I had a server at Rackshack back in 2003 when they had a transformer explosion/fire. One of my servers there was down for about 3 days if I recall.

After that explosion, they reviewed how they handled outages and concluded that the main issue was how poorly they communicated to their customers.

Webbycart seems oblivious to the fact that (at least some of) their customers are totally dependent on server uptime for their businesses.

The 99.9% uptime SLA - I'm trying to work out if that runs on a monthly cycle. If so, they are in breach of that agreement.

Posted by XTremo, 02-28-2013, 05:58 PM
I only use them for backups so it's not a major situation for me.

But in over 3 years I can't ever remember them being down before.....so they seem to have had a fairly consistent record.

I agree. I have been with them for 3 or 4 years too and never seen anything like this.

But it's times like this that you really need them to communicate and not disappear into a black hole.

Very much so.....and it may well be an area where they need to step up their game plan.

But technically, I've got a lot of confidence in them!

That makes me nervous. If they are technically competent (and I believe they are), what could possibly cause a 5hr downtime?

Their main site (at 69.162.73.218) is up, but that's all. Everything else is down.

For all I know, they could have gone into liquidation.

Look around the forum.....there's providers who've had downtime running into weeks.

5 hours really isn't that unusual.....especially if they've suffered some serious hardware failure.

Posted by tenletters, 02-28-2013, 07:32 PM
I got an update. They are waiting to hear from the data centre. So it seems they don't know what's going on either.

Posted by LampNetworks, 02-28-2013, 11:10 PM
Where are you getting updates?

Their site is down and I don't see anything on Twiitter or FB. I had an email reply about 5 hours ago saying they'll let me know when once server is up but no info on the problem was given

I was lucky enough to get a few emails from someone called James when I emailed webbycart@yahoo.com. The last message was 3 hrs ago and it read:

"There are no set time yet and no reply from dc yet.

We will inform you once we get an update.

Regards"

From that, I gather they know as much as we do.

Thanks for that!

Update: "We are very sorry for the outage, we will be online in a few minutes / hours, we are just now waiting for action/reply from the DC.

Regards,
Josh"

OK....I'm getting a little bit more concerned now.

Because for an extended outage of this nature then I would have expected either a resolution or a specific RFO.

My server is back up as of about 25 minutes ago

My backup server is down and their portal. Anybody got an update?

Would be nice if webbycart gave us an update.

They don't use an SSL for their portal.

Strange, that link was in my password program and could have sworn it always used to work.

Either way thanks for that, I have now submitted a support ticket.

Thanks again Harrier Host

I got through to their site by not using the https, but my backup server (6) is still unreachable.

They were, prior to this disruption though.

There's some comments going around on the grapevine about Webby... I won't repeat them because it's all hearsay - even though it's from reputable sources, but everyone should be making backups of their data at the moment... you know, just in case something freak happens that is 100% unrelated to the outage yesterday.

Posted by WebbyCart, 03-01-2013, 08:43 AM
WebbyCart Clients,

We are sorry about this downtime, We supposed be up around 12 hours ago, but there seems to be an issue with the DC and most of the servers are still down. I believe there are 3-4 servers that are up now, but we just switch back our domain to the main server, and the dns is hosted on the main server as well, hopefully in a few hours all will be up.

Sincerely,
Bobby

Definitely working for me from Spain.....but I do use Google DNS, so that may make a difference.

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at portal.webbycart.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Never was before. But I am visiting the Philipppines which they could of put a recent block on in their firewall for some reason or another. Don't know, cannot contact them.

Posted by timeshost, 03-02-2013, 08:01 AM
try them without https, its connecting from our site. With https there are issues and not able to get through.

Posted by Salvatore, 03-02-2013, 08:10 AM
It's now working for me with the https. I have sent a support ticket.

Thanks very much for all your responses. I appreciate it.

This is becoming frequent webbycart.

I'm in my 4th year with them.....and until the last month or so everything was solid. No idea what's changed.

And it's exactly one month since the last time.....so it's making me wonder a bit.
