Leaseweb - Germany, Down Again :(

Posted by Prajyot, 09-28-2012, 10:43 PM
Leaseweb Germany is down again. They have notification about it on their NOC page http://leasewebnoc.com/en/networkstatus

but there are TOO many downtimes ( You can say every month, there are 5-30min downtime)

We know they have two types of network but still down time is very high. Any one know how to claim compensation?

Posted by CW Mike, 09-29-2012, 12:02 AM
At least they kept you up-to date.

Contact the attackers that sent the ARP flood. You can hardly hold Leaseweb responsible.

By the way, only part of the DE network was affected. Our nodes there stayed up throughout the incident

It;s not about last outage, it's about overall problems from last 2-3 months

The problems have been on one router or segment of the network. It's unfair to say "Leaseweb DE Down" when it's (only) 1 segment.

Here's our monitoring (we're in a different section obviously):

Code:
Year Month Outages Uptime
2012 September 0 100.0000%
2012 August 0 100.0000%
2012 July 0 100.0000%
2012 June 0 100.0000%

Your servers in their new infrastrcture or just old netdirekt infrastrcture ?

I can confirm our servers have been functioning perfectly fine. old netdirect servers.

Guess it could be the new segments for Leaseweb Customers?

If I remember right they're in the ex-Netdirekt section.

EDIT: They are, I just checked the IP in WHOIS...

So it's not "Leaseweb Germany Down" but part of 1 of their DCs there. And, like I said earlier, you can hardly blame them for an outage when it's due to an attack.

Finally canceled my server with them, got tired of this irresponsibility
Before you go on protecting them, they are having downtime (in part of their network blah blah) since March if I remember correctly. I don't care what causes it, it's not acceptable for every month to have minimum 1 outage of over 2 hours. Not to mention the last 24 hours they were down 2 times in total of 5 hours, first time 4 hours, second time 1 hour: http://leasewebnoc.com/en/networkstatus
What sucks the most, this is going to happen again.
I have paid for the next month in advance (whole October) but I already started pulling my data gradually and leave them once and for all. I knew "leaseweb" is bad sign.

Good luck at your new provider.

Huh? I'm not protecting anyone. I'm correcting the statement made in the thread title and first post. The claim that "Leaseweb Germany is down" is false. Whether the claim was made through misunderstanding or sensationalism the fact remains that it doesn't portray a true picture of what happened.

It's just the same as an incident at OVH the other day. Their shared hosting platform was attacked (http://status.ovh.co.uk/?do=details&id=3427). If I then decided to start a thread "OVH France is down" I would expect to be laughed at by all the people who have servers there and never faced a problem.

Thank you for again linking to the notices showing both outages were due to attacks, not the fault of Leaseweb.

Of course it is... Anywhere. However, I would much rather trust a professional company like Leaseweb to deal with such incidents quickly and have the technical manpower and ability to do so, rather than host-hopping any time there's trouble.

Or a simple lack of knowledge. For example, I didn't know until a while ago that there are more parts then one.

I agree, that is true. The thing here is that Leaseweb has huge problem (in part of their network) in Wuppertal. What is causing the downtime - I don't care. The DC is not mine, neither I work for them. I am their customer and customers should not care about the infrastructure of the host.
I personally do not believe it's due to attacks. In fact, they were attacked once in all of these downtimes, most of the times "one of their ruters" simply fail. I expected in 10 months Leaseweb will remember to REPLACE the bloody faulty router, but nah.

What? Leaseweb showed how "professional" they are when they ignored the source of the problem. They do not do anything about (kinda) permanent fixing of the issue.
Let me say it again, downtimes are normal. At least 2 downtimes per month, every month, like they are caused on purpose, are NOT normal.
I bet $100 there will be 2 downtimes in part of their network in Wuppertal, planned or unplanned, in October. You know you're doing something wrong when a customer can bet that.

Move to NL DC

All they could do for me was to make a new order, for new hardware, and then reinstall everything... I didn't want to go to that route and I got tired of the downtimes so I moved elsewhere. Moving, to be precise (I will move completely by the end of October).

There might be a misunderstanding. We LeaseWeb, do not have a data center in Las Vegas. Our datacenter in USA is located in Manassas, Virginia.

In case, you are referring to a server in our Manassas datacenter, then please contact our support team via email, we can run tests to verify the connection issue.

Regards,
LeaseWeb
