123systems down for 168 Hours - 08/09/2012

Posted by Jim-, 09-15-2012, 05:24 PM
I have a ticket that has been opened since 08/09/2012 and haven't received a response since 10/09/2012. Did anyone experience this outage? Is your VPS still down?

Network issues effecting multiple nodes (Outage)

Affecting Other - VPS Node | Priority - Critical

Hello,

We are currently experiencing network issues on the below listed nodes:

VZ77DLTX

VZ33DLTX

VZ30DLTX

VZ74DLTX

While we are working hard to resolve this issue, we do not currently have an ETA on a resolution. Client's will be updated via twitter & this network page on updates regarding this issue.

We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue.

UPDATE: 12:31 AM (GMT -5) 9/9/2012

After in-depth hardware diagnostics it appears that there was an underlying hardware issue with these servers in conjunction with the network issue. All of these hard drives will be shipped to Flashback data recovery in attempt to recover all data or partial data. At this time we are unaware of what caused this bizzare issue but we can guarantee we will do everything we can to attempt to get the data in a functional state.

All data appears to be in-tact on the above servers but seems to be in a corrupted and non-functional state which we nor our upstreams datacenter technicians could resolve, this is why we are hiring a 3rd party data recovery partner to step in and hopefully pull the data from the drives in the RAID array.

While we do not have an accurate ETA on when we will be able to get these servers functioning again, we are willing to provide all client's with a temporary server at the same tier as their previous until we are able to get word back from Flashback. While the temporary server will not contain your previous data, it will allow you to continue running operations until we can get this matter resolved.

123Systems does not provide a data guarantee in these cases and generally it is the client's responsibility to maintain their own backups, but we are going to go the extra mile and send these drives to a data recovery company to hopefully recover our client's files for them. 123Systems will under no circumstances pass the fees of the data recovery on to our client's in any shape or form such as price increases or flat rates.

That's going well above and beyond, considering what professional data recovery costs...

I agree. Nice of them to try to recover the data.

I'm just looking for an update from other users since i can't get a response from their ticket system. Has anyone been moved to a temp server?

There are quite a few people that have to be moved considering this is a multiple node issue. We are doing everything we can to try and recover the client's data even though we are an unmanaged provider but even so, we can not guarantee it can be recovered.

If you would like to stay personally updated you are free to email me and I'll keep you updated myself

Thanks for taking the time to reply Andrew. I don't need to be personally updated via email or WHT. I can read your network outage page and my trouble tickets. I just need a response to my tickets. It's been 5 days since Chris's last response. As stated in my tickets, I don't care about backups as I have my own. I just want a working VPS with new ip's or my old ones. Please take a look at the tickets below.

Thanks

Gotcha. I'll probably do this myself in the next couple of hours. I'll email you letting you know when it's done

my VPS has been down for over two months, repeated requests for updates have been ignored.

I've been placed on the temp server queue, but haven't had any updates for nearly 2 months.

When will customers get thier temp servers?
Will we get an extra 2 months of service?
Will we get SLA credits as per the SLA agreement?

Perhaps the VPS data was lost due to the outage (hdd failure, hardware failure, etc). Perhaps just ask for a new VPS so you can restore your content from your own backups?
