WiredTree VPS Down

Posted by JohnDonovan, 06-08-2012, 06:52 PM
WiredTree is suffering a "filesystem error" issue on the hardware node of the VPS server I'm served on. The report that "the server had to be restarted and is currently running a filesystem check to ensure the server's data integrity".

No ETA for restoration of service.

Something like this can happen to the best out there. It is as painful for them as it is for you. WiredTree is a good provider, they surely take care of the issue (Be prepared that this might take some time, unfortunately).

Did they go down today again? Our backup server is hosted with them and we are about to migrate it but I can't access?

Sure. I just tracked that node down to see what happened. During the late afternoon on June 8th, his particular VPS node went read only which required a reboot and an FSCK for safety. While the check did take a few hours complete, I am not seeing any reports of data loss. We could attempt to fastboot clients in a rare situation like this but clients on the node could then face filesystem corruption.

We utilize enterprise grade hardware across the board in order to give us the highest probability of preventing situations like this. We maintain a very high 99.988% uptime and plan to keep it that way. If there are any other questions you have about this incident, I would be happy to answer them. I am also open to a phone call at my signature below if you want to talk person to person.

This would happen anywhere. Normally a fsck will take max 3-4 hours (normally 1-2) so I'm sure they'll have you sorted out soon.

This was sorted out a few weeks ago (June 8th) and there was no filesystem damage. You are right, it only took a few hours to rectify.
