Wired Tree down 2 days NOW!!!!

Posted by johannes, 03-25-2012, 10:53 AM
I recommended a client to Wired Tree and he got a hybrid. His server been down for 2 days. They say there was a power spike and they getting the backups.

Why is it taking so long to restore?

I have a simple UPS on my desktops and it can handle any power spyke. Shouldn't wiredtree have something better

this is crazy. my host has been down for 2 days. We are with Wired Tree. normaly a hybrid system is fast but is seems to me that what they call hybrid. is nothing esle and a normal host.

Instead of posting why don't you contact them. Just because power is restored does not mean the server is turned on, perhaps your server was not booted you should try requesting a reboot.

Posted by delcor, 03-25-2012, 03:56 PM
we have contacted them. they say they are busy uploading. this is now going for the 3rd day. this does not sound right. for a hybrid system. makes you wonder if it is realy a hybrid.

hybrid just means there is a virtual layer for management... you are still responsible to keep backups... why not deploy a new hybrid machine and restore your backups?

Posted by delcor, 03-25-2012, 04:23 PM
thy kept the back up with them. so they said they will restore it. does it realy take that long?

Posted by delcor, 03-25-2012, 04:26 PM
you said deploy a new hybrid. did you mean with another hosting company?

Posted by makaze, 03-25-2012, 05:32 PM
I think he means deploy another machine and restore from your backups that you kept. (you do have backups besides what your host has right?)

Wiredtree advertise

R1Soft Daily Backups Included
Sleep soundly knowing WiredTree is watching your server!

In this case sleepless nights. Isn't R1Soft suppose to be offsite or different location backup. Taking 3 days to restore the data is a bit long.

I have a VPS with them and happy with mine but after this instance looks like I will have to do my own external backups. Reason I am using them is that that is what they promise daily backups.

Also I send Zac a pm and he doesn't respond and Wiredtrees facebook page is full of complaints.

Are they slipping or are there problems we should be aware off.

Regardless of what they advertise, any responsible system administrator knows to keep their own off-site backups. No system is perfect, and relying on a single provider to do everything for you almost always ends up in disaster eventually.

You can find hundreds or possibly thousands of posts stating what I just stated above, at least 10-20 by myself alone. ALWAYS keep your own backups. If your data is THAT important to you and the operation of your business, you would have a copy of it in your possession, correct?

Well, now that you've learned that lesson, once everything is back online, I would suggest taking a backup quickly to help prevent this from happening again

Rather than complaining here, why don't you complain to them?

Realistically a person is going to complain wherever they feel like complaining.

yes we have - just want to let this forum know what type of host service this company offer. once we have all our files restored we will move from them to another host.

Few month ago someone post a hater content on his site so I was post a email to his hosting provider "WiredTree"(Abuse dept) and they reply me

I think WiredTree is good place for Warez/illegal content/illegal activity because they did not take any action until they get a Court order and this is main reason for huge downtime.

I seriously hope you are kidding. Have u forgot to read the terms of wiredtree's DMCA clause ? And do u have any clue about what the issue was about ? Don't jump into conclusions.

Well if you want to back up automatically you can use rsync, there are sites such as bqbackup, rsyncpalace or even securedragon. My personal suggestion would be bqbackup even though its a little more expensive than rsyncpalace.

I personally try to recommend to have a remote backup ie manual backup other than the rsync as if u have some issue with your configs or some hacking or some thing of that sort happens, rsync might have only the latest backup which could be the hacked content, so its always safe to have ur entire disk backed up once in a while. I personally see to it my servers are backed up manually once a couple of weeks. Its better be safe than sorry.

btw! All the best with your data recovery process.

Well, yeah. "Hater content" would fall under what's known as "Free Speech". If they just took it offline without any legal reason to do so, they could be held liable by the owner of the website. That's them ensuring that they're not getting sued or improperly handling things. In that case, they're doing the right/legal thing by doing nothing unless ordered to do so by court.

WiredTree is the best VPS provider I've been with. I don't know why you're having such a bad time. My server runs perfect, never had a problem and their support is very good (Hence it being managed.)

I was planning to order a VPS from wiredtree this weekend.
Do you think that I should wait a bit?

Posted by oskinpower, 04-02-2012, 08:53 PM
Don't go with Wiredtree. Instead, go with ServInt.

I currently spent $300/month a ServInt and have been VERY GOOD.

We have a WIretree since last June and rarely needed support because we self-manage, However, we ran into a problem recently, opened a ticket. Instead of helping us, the customer service manager not only refused to fix it, he started to divert the issue by making false accusation. They make us pay $75/h, and make false accusations.

I think this thread has served its purpose. If you have any further outages or reviews concerning them then please make a new thread.
