All my servers just went down anyone else?

Posted by BigScoots-Scott, 12-17-2011, 11:17 AM
Yes most likely another DDOS.

Posted by scooby2, 12-17-2011, 01:28 PM
We were down for about 7 minutes. I agree, most likely a DDOS.

Posted by RackFlux, 12-17-2011, 09:45 PM
My servers are currently hard down. I've noticed a bit of packet loss and at times no connectivity for short periods of time. Hopefully they're working on fixing this for good.

Posted by Violent Injection, 12-17-2011, 09:46 PM
Down aswell.

Posted by RackFlux, 12-17-2011, 09:47 PM

Posted by grapple, 12-22-2011, 05:56 PM
This is getting ridiculous, there is never an update from the company or what they are doing to resolve.

Posted by faisius, 12-22-2011, 05:57 PM
i thought upgrading to HE was suppose to fix this

Posted by Violent Injection, 12-22-2011, 05:57 PM
Me to but it seems to be almost everyday now.

Posted by pentiumone133, 12-22-2011, 05:57 PM
I am down as of 5 minutes ago as well.

edit: (back up now)

Corey,

We are currently investigating an issue with our primary routing device. We have failed over to our secondary device, and your service should be stable now. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Justin

to Corey
Corey,

Your server is currently pushing ~14 Mbps outbound. Earlier there was an issue with a power panel breaker switching off that may have caused loss of power to your equipment. This issue is currently being investigated. Are you still not able to access your server?

Posted by Violent Injection, 01-11-2012, 05:55 PM
Is it down for anyone right now?

Hello,

We are currently experiencing a routing issue with one of our upstream providers (Hurricane Electric). Customers have been reporting wide spread packet loss. We have manually flapped over to our other carrier (InterNAP) and we are seeing normal traffic levels. Once we have isolated the issue with our upstream provider (Hurricane Electric) we will bring them back into our BGP.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

And they moved me back to the HE blend and I am down again. Why would you move people back to HE during peek hours. Why not move us during off hours?

Hello

Sorry guys! We were hit with a huge DDoS that was mitigated within 15 minutes time. So sorry for any issues that may have been caused because of it.

If you are still having any connectivity issues, please send a ticket to support@continuumdatacenters.com and we will be happy to help you out!

They only have one name server and it is hosted at Continuum. If they have connectivity issues (DDOS or Abovenet issues) then nothing can be looked up.

The private IP's are covad's routers. I have only seen HE use 10.x.x.x and very sparingly at that, never on customer links. A reverse trace proves it -

I find it funny that the line card died, and the BGP session is still activeadd http) ://lg.level3.net/bgp/bgp.cgi?site=chi1&target=69.25.250.12

However I guess you could just use one of the few active wifi spots in there, I know ubiquity has a wifi network and so does one of comcast's customers, might give them a call and see what they would charge to allow your mac address access to the network

This is ridiculous. I am getting blown up by customers asking why their servers are down, why our sites down, etc.

The hillarious part is they just sent out an e-mail saying they will no longer handle shipping servers and we have to make our own arrangements to have hardware picked up. Good timing, you should have a lot of visitors in the next few days!

I personally have several servers in racks at ColoCrossing which is in Chicago. I have recently talked to Continuum about maybe putting a few servers over there but decided not to do that. That of course was before I saw this thread, now I am glad I didn't go any further.

I am not going to say that ColoCrossing is the best colo provider out there, I haven't used all of them. I am going to say that since we moved our servers from ThePlanet to ColoCrossing we have 99.9% uptime from the Data Center and some years 100% unless they are doing maintenance, still its probably above the 99%.

We also along with our US customers we have UK and Australia clients that prefer our servers over servers in their own country. This of course has been going strong for over 4 years with Colo and although we do have a few bumbs in the road from time to time, they always do what they can to resolve any issues quickly.

Although I am currently only using their Chicago DC I have had servers hosted in Dallas and New York and had the same reliable service and fast upstream.

If you need your servers and racks online at a good rate I would recommend at least contacting them to see if they can fit your needs.

After paying $155 on a bandwidth overage for one server(due to a billing confusion on my end, but they didn't want to work with us), getting an email about them no longer offering shipping services, and a downtime at least once a month, I am starting to question if we are going to stay there or not.

frustrating, I shouldn't have to cross my fingers that a co-located machine is going to stay up.

Looks like the network path is behaving identically to the other night.

Yeah its been getting annoying over the last couple days especially. We are looking in to possibly moving to Gigenet.

Down again here.

Posted by Kluian, 02-07-2012, 02:16 AM
Down again. Everything went dark. From what I understand they are using Vyatta routers that can't handle any ddos and drop BGP sessions.

Posted by pentiumone133, 02-07-2012, 02:19 AM
Strange, I can RDP into my machine, but the same machine cannot get out to the internet...

Put in a ticket earlier today and recieved a polite response that there was some major repairs happening wednesday.

These Vyatta routers have to go, they can't handle the packets per second when they get hit with a DDoS and who even in their right mind would use a software router for a datacenter infrastructure. Their BGP is completely down

I'm not sure it's anything to do with DDOS. I'm pretty sure my stuff has been hit with DDOS in the past and it didn't affect their whole network.

Still 4 hours left in "today"

Posted by Kluian, 02-08-2012, 10:36 PM
All the downtime in the past 60 days is taking its toll. I'm losing clients like crazy. Would be nice if the emails they send didn't have that "canned message" feel to them. Or better it would be nice if one of the reps for Cont would post here.

Posted by Nextron, 02-08-2012, 11:06 PM
Continuum has become an utter disgrace.
There was a time when they were decent.. but over the last few months, the utter "I don't give a fock" attitude of the Continuum staff is amazing.

For example, Continuum goes down today (Big surprise), then after the "unexpected" downtime, they send out a mass email stating they'll be performing maintenance that will cause a 4 hour window of downtown. Which will be happening in the next hour.
Who in the bloody hell sends out a downtime notice for something as long as a 4 hour downtime window merely an hour before performing it?
That doesn't give you nearly enough time to prepare for it, or inform your clients about it.

It's just amazing how low this company has sunk in such a short period of time.
New management maybe? I have no hope that this datacenter will still be in business in the next 3 months.

This ship has already sunk.

Posted by ContinuumMike, 02-09-2012, 02:33 AM
@Nextron - We did not say you would be down for four hours straight, just that there may be brief periods within that window where you may have a poor or no connection. This is considered emergency maintenance for us, and you received an email from us on the 8th that mentioned we would be scheduling this window this evening.

I believe we have done everything to keep you very well informed, and the stability should increase a great amount after this has been completed. You may also follow us on Twitter @ContinuumAlerts.

If you have any further questions regarding our maintenance this evening, please contact us at support@continuumsupport.com, we'd love to take your questions

You're right about it not being down for that entire 4 hour window. Hopefully with all these upgrades, your network will return to normal. I miss the continuum I raised my infrastructure on, and would love to watch it continue growing without clients rage quitting on me.

I recall an email earlier in the week saying Wednesday would have downtime to fix the router (again) - I think that went out over the weekend after downtime then, so you should have expected that yesterday (I did).

All this work on the "routers" this last few months I really hope you guys actually fix the problems.

The network is just fine, Ben. I need WHT customers to stop being the target of DDoS. And I'm sure you won't have any issues with the increased rates that come along with all of these suggested improvements.

I am not following your meaning. Are you saying WHT customers are more prone to DDoS?

Posted by Kluian, 02-11-2012, 09:27 PM
Why do you run Vyatta routers, Tom? You can't even afford to get a decent Brocade or similiar router? I'm appalled that you choose to run a data center network as big as yours on the back of a software router.

Unfortunately, that's correct from our perspective. I don't have any customers from outside sources that generate them.

Posted by Violent Injection, 02-11-2012, 09:32 PM
I wouldn't mind if it solves the bi-weekly server interruptions. We have been the target of DDOS attacks once and awhile but we are still affected by other customers being hit, which compared to our other servers in other datacenters is too frequent.

Posted by Kluian, 02-11-2012, 09:39 PM
No other data center I have servers in drops the entire BGP during a ddos. At most I get an email saying that a ddos is being nullrouted and that's the end of it. I really hope that the new routers make a difference.

We didn't drop BGP, this only affected a single carrier. BGP was up and running fine along with other traffic, but a single carrier experienced packet loss.

Posted by Kluian, 02-11-2012, 09:49 PM
In a vast majority of the previous outages in the last 2 months+ the BGP has dropped. Your routers go dark. It is making me look terrible to customers that want uptime. I love uptime and there isn't a whole lot of love to be had right now. I know you guys are not a 350 Cermak but you are not some fools in a crap DC either. Like I said in the last post I really hope there isn't anymore dropouts with the new equipment.

Well, as we stated last Wednesday, that issue has been fully resolved. The packe loss a few customers experienced this evening was completely unrelated.

The loss everyone encountered earlier was due to a 4Gbps DDoS that hit the same client multiple times. Our upgrade had nothing to do with transit speeds, if you would like more precise information, please don't hesitate to contact us.
