What's up with FusionNet?

My site is hosted at FusionNet ("100% uptime") (thefusionnet.com) and not only has it been offline for several hours but there is no active trace of the FusionNet site online and no way to reach their 24/7 customer support. Anyone else having a similar problem with them?
I know that they are active in this forum and I am hoping that maybe one of their staff can provide some answers. |

I was going to check if www.thefusionnet.com responded to pings, but the nameservers aren't up either so I couldn't find the IP.
Have you tried phoning? Whois data gives

Someone posted 16hours ago on there facebook saying their site was down as well as the main site. Been down some time then.

Still Down?! It's been almost 24 hours - no homepage, and no support whatsoever. If someone has any contact with customer service, could you please give us an update on this matter? Thanks. |

24 hours are unacceptable. If you have local backup, just say them Goodbye and go for a new host. Uptime is the matter instead of money. |

24 hours without any kind of notice or explanation is indeed unacceptable. How long have you hosted with them? Do you get bounce backs when you try to email them? |

Worst part is that there have been no updates or information. They have a Twitter and a Facebook account but thus far they haven't bothered to even post an acknowledgment that they are aware of the problems. |

Definitely not a good sign.
I hope they come back online soon and give you an update as well, or else you might have to start looking for a more reliable host. Do you have a backup of your website(s)? |

I have been posting on facebook and twitter - no replies. I've sent them emails - no replies, but no bounce backs either. Been with them for more than 3 months now, and this is the first ever issue ive had. However, my local backup is 2 weeks old and as of yesterday, I finished making significant changes to the website. I was just downloading a backup last night when the servers went down. So, I am hoping, and expecting, them to be back online ASAP! |

The company is run illegally, there is a big thread on WHT about it, I don't think they're coming back. But I hope I'm wrong. |

If I were you, I'd find a host that has a 30 day money-back guarantee, and sign up. Give them your two week old backup. At least you have a website again. Should FusionNet come back, you have two options - use the money-back guarantee on the new host, and go back to FN (although, would you?...), or take a more up to date backup from FN and give that to your new provider. |

It has been known for companies to run promotions when there on deaths door, perhaps to try and save the company or alternatively get some money in there pockets before jumping ship.
This doesn't indicated on if they are coming back or not. Either way only time will tell on if there gone or not. |

Anyone suddenly offering a $15 - $20/y deal, out of softlayer no less, is grabbing for cash. Those plans are NOT doable on rented gear long term - period.
I'm not really surprised in the end. Both Mark & Shaun used to sit in my IRC channel messaging clients waiting on our stock recommending themselves.

Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances my last backup is more like 2 months old but otherwise that sounds like a solid idea and probably what I will have to do if I don't hear from them in the next 12 hours or so.
The more time that goes by, the more shady this seems and more unacceptable. There's just no reason for a commerce company not to at least drop a line on their existing Twitter or Facebook account to inform customers in a situation like this.
Communication is the key and up to now this hosting company completely lacks it. It is a shame because prior to this I had been with them for around 5 months and gave them a passing grade. |

Sorry - my confusion. It was the other affected person in this forum who had a backup from two weeks ago.
Is it a full cPanel backup you have? If so, it will be very easy for any cPanel host to get that back up and running for you.
Have you made many changes to the site since that backup? It is a complete nightmare when things like this happen. |

#fusionnet on irc.he.net still has 40+ users online, but most of them are offline and the rest have no clue of what's going on. I called Donnie's number (as registered for the domain) and it was a dud. If indeed this is a host that was served from a bedroom, could we not use the IP addresses to locate the whereabouts. I know I sound a little optimistic, but I'm still hoping these guys show up.. |

Phew is right! I did exactly that and now my site is back up.
The kicker in all of this is that they are saying on their twitter account that on one hand this was an "emergency maintenance" of the server and on the other that this was a "scheduled rebuild".
Regardless of what it was, the bottom line is that they utterly failed their customers by not communicating. If it was "scheduled", some kind of heads up announcement would have been the normal protocol; it is were an emergency, then some kind of post-event announcement on twitter or facebook would have gone a long way to ease the tension of paying customers.
They did neither. There was virtual silence on their end until after they got back up. Not even a tweet from a phone!
I hope they read this and that other hosts also read this and respond more professionally should they encounter a similar situation in the future. As I said previously, communication is the key. |
