UltraHoster.co.uk down

Posted by Tilen, 07-28-2011, 04:23 AM
Hello.

Is anyone else experiencing downtime with UltraHoster.co.uk ? Their website isn't working at all - http://www.ultrahoster.co.uk/ - and I can't login neither to my WHM, as well as their "client area" - it's down for the past 24 hours at least, it already happened few days ago. They fixed it somehow (after a few hours downtime) and they responded to my support ticket with "one user is using too-many resources, we fixed it, got the new hardware to make sure the monitoring will be better and those things won't happen again".

However, today, a day and some hours later, it's all gone again. And I'm very unhappy about it, as some of my customers give me hard time over phone (understand them totally) and I can't help them as I don't get any response by UltraHoster.co.uk Support Team anymore.

It's funny how someone can opt-out of their whois details being displayed and claim to be a non-trading individual when they offer webhosting. someone should complain at nominet.

WOW. Could not access the site, so looked in Google cache.

Check this server load:

Could it be it has something to do with the power outage in Telecity London datacenter ?

Posted by Tilen, 07-28-2011, 07:11 AM
I Don't know. I haven't figured out which datacenter are they using, but it could also be that. Anyone has more info maybe?

tnx @target for offering this possibility.

Mains power was restored more than 24 hours ago.

Telecity Meridian Gate in the London docklands suffered a power failure yesterday morning, but power was only off for about half an hour.

Of course if they are in Meridian Gate then an unexpected loss of power can cause all sorts of problems with servers that could leave them offline for an extended period of time whilst they replace components or repair the filesystem, but that's no excuse for a lack of communication with customers, particularly given the availability of Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/ultrahoster

I don't even think they are hosted in the UK:

I thinks they still host at BurstNET. Anyway make a search on the forum and you see is not ultrahoster first outage that last 1 hour or more, even days!

Posted by Tilen, 07-28-2011, 08:37 AM
I guess the change of hosting provider (for those my sites) should now be an option of a serious talk...

Posted by UKDirectHost, 07-28-2011, 08:46 AM
If you have backups, don't talk, you need to get your sites backup.

Posted by Tilen, 07-28-2011, 08:56 AM
If only...

Gotta make them when/if this host returns. I didn't and that was my mistake.

Posted by Tilen, 07-29-2011, 01:07 AM
still nothing works. This is ridiculous by now...

Posted by UKDirectHost, 07-29-2011, 03:57 AM
Sorry man. Hope you get it sorted soon. Unfortunately this happens so often with new hosts and crazy prices.

Posted by hayley2005, 07-29-2011, 01:00 PM
This is ridiculous although they have been down 2/3 days at one time already this year. Will be asking for compensation of at least a few month or 2, since I got nothing the last long downtime. So angry.

Posted by bubblymunkey, 07-29-2011, 01:59 PM
I'm so angry at this. Both of my sites have been down pretty much 24/7 minus an hour here and there, for the last week at least.
I emailed them about it and I never got a reply! So so angry.

Ultrahoster SHOUTcast Server still down

Roger

Posted by Othon, 07-30-2011, 01:47 AM
I have already paid for the second month why suddenly down? all of my customers angry, I do not know how to help them ......

Posted by hayley2005, 07-30-2011, 04:25 AM
just checked my sites, some are now saying 500 error so something is happening. Altho one of my sites have the wordpress install.php page on which is very worrying as someone can now easily 'reinstall' and hack me?

Why cant ultrahoster use facebook or twitter to update its customers, so unprofesional, its unreal.

Posted by UKDirectHost, 07-30-2011, 06:55 AM
Considering the domain was registered a few months ago, the person does probably does not even know how to run a business, let alone a server properly.

Thanks ultrahoster one of my website domains has been taken over due to ur massive downtime and incompetent service. Really appreciate all the non existant advice & support for past 6 months uve just lost a very valuble customer!!!

Posted by bubblymunkey, 07-30-2011, 09:18 AM
My two sites are back now, yet others still aren't working I assume it'll go down again soon though, no doubt! :@

Posted by target, 07-30-2011, 10:36 AM
Look at their prices ... If it looks to good to be truth, it probably is.

Posted by UKDirectHost, 07-30-2011, 11:12 AM
Half his site isn't working. invalid links all over the place.

Unlikely as they're hosted in the US.

You lost the client because of _your_ business decisions, by selecting UH based on your criteria for picking a provider...

* An individual opted out of whois (according to the domain reg)
* No actual "company" behind it (according to companies house)
* Ridiculous pricing/plan specs

Sorry, was looking at the wrong domain.

Already reported to nominet regarding "non-trading" status.

Maybe you guys should all make a copy of his guarantee if you want to claim back any money.

im sorry im a newb in host buying, a lot of hosts on here, as u say, have 'ridiculous price plans' to get new customers, i obvo chose the wrong one. How would i of known months down the line that i would have 3 and a half days downtime on the host i chose?

All my sites are back up today but no email of excuses just yet.

Posted by UKDirectHost, 07-31-2011, 05:28 AM
Hayley: Yes I understand how you feel, and that even though you might be new at web hosting, the most important thing one can do is research. Yes, every host has downtime, but what sets them apart from everyone else is how they handle it. This is not the first time Ultrahoster has had downtime spanning this long, and this is the typical way he handles it.

Reputably hosts when they go down will try their best to notify their users of what is going on. This is often handled in the following ways amongst others: Report it here if they are active on the forum, facebook or twitter or company blog. They don't just stay silent for days on end.

A word of advice to you and to other users who were affected by this: Do research. Search these forums, search google, use terms such as "nameofhost reviews" "nameofhost downtime" etc. Think of all the negative things that can happen with webhosting, and use those terms to do research using a search engine.

Good luck with your hosting!

I guess now they came back online. I still didn't recieve any email notification or explanation of any kind about what happened.. and why it happened.

Anyways, I just picked up the latest backups and moved my domains elsewhere. This 3 day downtime is not the proper way to keep the clients happy.
