SnelServer Network Down

Posted by ZSIMark, 07-14-2011, 04:56 PM
Hello,

It appears the network at SnelServer (www.snelservers.com) is down again for the third day in a row. They've been getting DDoSed and have yet to solve this completely. I've had inconsistent service for 2-3 days.

Support is unresponsive just like the past few days.

Anyone else on their network facing issues?

-Mark

Looks like they've sorted it out for today, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Posted by Snelinternet, 07-14-2011, 05:20 PM
Please refer to the reply we've sent to your support ticket as well:

Quote:
There was another DDoS at our network, but unfortunately our network provider is not being very clear about it.
We've made numerous upgrades in terms of capacity and routers (as advised by them), without any resolution.
A meeting has been scheduled with them tomorrow which will basically be the final chance for them.

Should the meeting not result in a satisfactory explanation and resolution, we will switch to a new network provider.
In the mean time, we will continue monitoring the situation and I've credited your server with 3 days as compensation.

I'm very sorry for these persistent issues and please bear with us while we are working hard on them.

It is interesting to note that support is only 9-5 so should you have any server issues and your IPMI is unavailable, you are SOL for many hours. I was not aware of this, but it's in the FAQ. Just in case potential buyers are interested.

Just to add to this: our support is indeed available from 9am to 6pm.
However, for issues on our side (e.g. network infrastructure, switch broken, hardware failure) we are available 24/7.

Their network has many outages. I had them for 3 months.

That is correct, as mentioned in our statement, there have been many DDoS attacks in the past few months. We've constantly upgraded our network to be able to cope with this and have now reached a point where these attacks (which continue to occur) have no more effect on the network.

Compensation has been given to all customers affected.

Not to me. I can't bother anymore though, I didn't extend any of my servers, being an weakness network for months is not worth (which was still not solved the last day of my service) staying at it.

I fully understand your reasons to cancel, I just want to let people (and customers that are still with us) know the problems are being taken very seriously and have been tackled.

Don't blame them for the DDOS attacks, it can happen to any provider.
Also we have been the target of it for a few times in a very short period and all you can do is wait for the provider to resolve it and have some understanding.

We've fortunately been able to bring them to a minimum by tenfolding our network capacity, but such attacks are still beyond anyones control.

No, they're referring to their own network. Nearly any provider on this forum has had downtime due to DDoS attacks.

Looks like things are coming back to life now.

The problem seems to be under control, I do not have an explanation yet since our network provider is still working on it.

DDos attackt can happend with every provider.
you can't blame them about this!.

just a small problem must be fix by snelserver if some server have ddos attackt then not the whole network must gone down.
Maybe install load balancer in the network

We do not have any evidence at this time that it was caused by a DDoS attack.

uhmmm, maybe check some logs in the switches and check why it was down.
I hope this will solve asap.

The network has been stable for the past 24 hours. If you continue having issues (or have had issues before the initial downtime on Friday night), please open a ticket.
As soon as our network provider has an explanation or update about the issues we have experienced, we will let you know by e-mail.

Getting tedious.

I have been in talks with another DC and will be putting plans in place to start migrating.

If snel cant even get an answer from their network provider after 2-3 weeks then what is the point in sticking with them, they have totally failed to communicate with clients I feel very let down now.

Last time when i opened a support ticket I received a response after 23 hours, 23 hours for a network issue is not bad

"Our network provider is having emergency maintenance to prevent the packet loss and downtime of the last week."

However emergency maintenance and "Planned" dont go together - there was zero notification about any "Planned" maintenance.

Please refer to our NOC: http://www.snelnoc.com

Our network provider is having emergency maintenance to resolve the issues of last week. Because of the impact of the downtime and packet loss last week, our network provider wanted to perform this maintenance as soon as possible. Our network provider has said the maintenance window would last about 30 minutes.

to fix a timeout your network manager turn the network down
what a big solution

We do not have such guarantee, we do not offer 100% uptime. Our network provider has told us this maintenance has resolved the issue and only time will tell whether that is indeed the case.

Do not worry. Just someone turned off power machine for a hour when all techs were sleeping.

We are still waiting for an explanation, the only thing we know at this time is this maintenance was meant to tackle the problems we were experiencing.

Did you not make a point of making sure that this specific problem would not cause a total outage again?

The second provider is in the works but not yet completed. Once completed, we'll let you know.

We do not accept technical support through Facebook. If you then start swearing and insulting, we will indeed remove and ban you from Facebook.
For technical support, you can open a ticket through SnelPanel or e-mail support@snelserver.com if the panel is not working for you.

So, if you don't take your facebook for working, what is it for? For making friends? Are you a serious company or are you joking? I really can't distinguish wether you're joking or if you're speaking seriously.

Why would I send an email to that address which replies after 48 hours? You take my servers down inmediately WITH NO REASON AT ALL, and I have to wait another 48 hours? so 72 hours?

Come on snel, be serious. You've really changed these months.

Servers are taken down if there is no reply to an abuse complaint 24 hours, they are never taken down immediately.
You receive an e-mail when there is a new abuse complaint and you receive an e-mail when the server is taken down.

Our Facebook page is meant for keeping up to date with our discounts, news, blog posts etc. and never for technical support.

I don't know wether you're working on snel or not. I REPEAT: YOU JUDGED US AS "SPAM SENDING ABUSE" WITHOUT LOOKING AT ALL AT THE EMAIL CONTENT. It was a FORGOT PASSWORD RECOVERY E-MAIL. Do you know what are they for? I replied the abuse and told you it was your error, it was a recovery password e-mail and what? YOU SAID ITS NOT VALID AND TAKE DOWN THE SERVER? COME ON SNEL, Stop trying to look ok in front of new customers, you're going worse each day. 2 weeks of constantlys downtimes, abuses which are ridiculous, don't take for serious answers, take down servers, don't take care of your customers.
I really used to love Snel, but now i'm not so sure.

And be waiting a apologies, not for us, for all clients, by your behavior, your instability, and your nervousness..

Our abuse system is completely automated, if there is an invalid complaint you can mark the abuse complaint as invalid in your control panel.
This system has worked this way since the beginning and there has no been no change in these policies.

The problem is that it should be more flexible .. those weeks we have been losing thousands of euros ..

Only that we like to read are apologizes.

At the moment the https://www.snelpanel.com/ is down again but servers seems to be up. Server can not resolve or ping other sites or ips. This is effecting the functionality of all 3 servers we have with snel. Hope you can look into this soon.

Quote:
root@serv [~]# ping cnn.com
PING cnn.com (157.166.255.19) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- cnn.com ping statistics ---
13 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 12003ms
Nadeu, As far as I know Snel is very reasonable in handling abuse tickets. They do provide ample amount of time for you to respond to it. As he said it is mostly automated and nothing personal.

I fixed my issue by changing to google resolvers.

One of our three resolvers was offline, but the other two configured in your server took over. The only problems you might have had is slower DNS resolving.
The output you showed indicates DNS resolving went fine (it resolved to 157.166.255.19), the only reason you didn't receive pings is because cnn.com blocks them.

If you have a technical issue and SnelPanel is offline, you can always e-mail support@snelserver.com
