You beat me to it. I was writing about this too. Their client support system is also down.

Been down for about 6 hours. Going to be a very long 48 hours for me.

Hiya Rocky, if you are in the US, can you please try calling them at 865.622.9688

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 07:37 AM
Yeah after following the whole HostFail conversation on Facebook and I thought I was in a better situation.

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 07:37 AM
Hi Omega, do you know why it is down? What HostFail convo? O_O

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 07:39 AM
I am now gonna PM Tanner Bradley at WHT forum. Hopefully he will sort all these out asap.

Sorry I wish I had an answer. I'm pulling my hair out for what I'm going to tell my clients and how my workflow has been setback at least a week.

I tried calling Tanner but no answer. I also tried calling Data Bank but I'm out the calling area...and I can't use my google phone since it's linked to my domain. Here is their info...maybe someone on that side of the border can call them

There was another company called hostrail.com that was selling very cheap services, like cheap $1 vps or something like that. About a month ago the owner sent an email to his clients saying that his providers were raising the cost on him so he needed a 60% increase from all his customers in a few days. So a week later he shut down, everyone lost all their sites and data. After research everyone found out that he owed $17,000 for one set of servers and $1,000 to another...they locked him out.

I don't think that is what happened here, but 7 hours is not good.

I'm also keeping an eye on here in case something shows up

My VPS is down also. I am guessing they are having some network issues. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

here it says they are with singlehop
Can we contact single hop regarding this ? is there any problem in their servers?

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 08:00 AM
They moved from singlehop. There was a lot of technical and speed issues that were fixed once they moved to the Texas center.

Oh my lord thats not goood! @hostrail

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 08:05 AM
Yeah. I was offering my services to anyone who lost their service with them...and now here we are.

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 08:06 AM
let us just hope that Tanner doesnt know about this issue and that it just a silly networking issue. I dont even have a back up of my site and I will be, honestly, bankrupt if something bad happens. I am on a dial up so downloading hte entire backup is just not possible

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 08:14 AM
Sorry. I was mentioning about a company called Hostrail that shutdown leaving their clients with no hosting. So on their facebook page I offered my hosting for anyone that needed to get their site back online right away.

I got a hold of someone at DataBank and "they said" there's no issues on their end. So now it's just getting a hold of Tanner.

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 09:30 AM
at least that's a big relief right? that means the data is safe?

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 09:45 AM
I hope so.

Not really, however if Tanner has been hosting your site reliably for awhile, I'd give him the opportunity to respond and fix the issue.

From my experience with Tanner, he is a reliable guy so I agree. I am just hoping its a glitch and something Tanner is not aware of and something he will fix the moment he wakes up.

The hardest part is not knowing what is going on. Looks like everything is down including name servers. I do see a lot of recent activity from them so I would assume that as the morning progresses you will see some action on this problem.

I would try sending them direct messages on Twitter: http://twitter.com/spechosting or any other contact methods that are outside of the spechosting domain name since the name servers are not responding. They really need to setup name servers on alternate data centers.

Posted by hill7714, 07-11-2011, 10:30 AM
Even the spechosting.com site is down this time!! Not a good sign!

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 10:33 AM
Yeah I agree with that offsite nameserver thingy double time. At least the support site should always be up regardless of everything or anything that may go wrong.

Posted by hill7714, 07-11-2011, 10:42 AM
I'm glad I host my dns with DNSMadeEasy. At least I can easily change the dns record to point to a backup server and make sure my customers don't see a page not found error.

Posted by Chaos Inc, 07-11-2011, 10:44 AM
Is that free?@DnsMadeEasy

If so, how many queries?

Posted by hill7714, 07-11-2011, 10:49 AM
Not free @DnsMadeEasy. I pay $60/yr for 25 domains, 10 million queries a month, and it includes 3 ip failovers. So if the site goes down, it will automatically change the DNS to point to a backup server. I haven't set that up yet... doing it manually still. I decided it was worth it because I use google for email and I wanted to make sure my customers (and me) always have email even if my hosting provider goes down.

Just to let everyone know, we had a RAID card issue on the Spec 3 VPS Node. During that time we had to change the RAID Card out. We then had to run a FSCK on the machine. Everything is up and functioning now, please submit a ticket for further explanation if needed.

Thanks a lot Tanner for the update. You rock!

Posted by TBradley, 07-11-2011, 11:29 AM
I do apologize, I tried to reply when this thread first opened but every time I would hit the post quick reply button it would come back as a NGINX error.

Posted by TremorHost, 07-11-2011, 03:46 PM
Great to see you were able to resolve the issue

Posted by 48-14, 07-11-2011, 03:51 PM
Yes. Tanner is great at what he does and one of the few companies where you actually deal with the owner.

I was just worried when there was no response, but everything is back to "normal" if there is such a thing in the hosting world.
