Forever Hosting / fehosting.com down?

Posted by almostpaid, 07-11-2011, 05:06 AM
I have a VPS with them which is online but their main website is down. The name servers are down too, not pingable. I have a bad feeling about this. Any ideas?

I can not connect to fehosting.com

I just spoke to hostdime and I asked if they had any network outages and they said no which would indicate their account being terminated or suspended unless they intentionally went offline without informing us.

I think I'm their only customer lol my VPS is still online but I fear that will soon go too.

Can anyone give me any advice on what to do? Their prices were pretty cheap and their service has always been good apart from a hiccup in Jan and this.

I can confirm we haven't had any outages. I would recommend you keep a current back of your data and consider looking for a new host just in case

I have a VPS with them that's still online. I've only just noticed the website's down - have been waiting for a reply from their support. I was in the midst of that December 2010 - January 2011 episode but got over it because their service had been good especially for that price.

I would suggest to ultimately wait it out as I'm sure it's just a minor oversight (I hope I'm right) but in the mean time create regular backups and look for an alternative host just in case?

Thanks hostdime. I was disappointed you don't do reverse dns for ip addresses even though hostgator and ipage allow you on shared accounts but I guess you're a way bigger company and have those restrictions.

REMX have you found any new providers?

No I haven't looked. Let's just say from your original post it's been less 24 hours of their website going down - I don't think that's grounds to panic especially if your VPS is still operational although I do understand why but I've seen larger corporations have downtime of much longer that never informed their enterprise clients. I'm only saying this for myself I'm ok with waiting, this might not be a suitable solution for you but if you are adamant about looking for a new host, there's plenty of offers on this forum :-)

I've found this lowendbox.com/blog/foreverhosting-6-30-786mb-openvz-vps/#comment-38355

Looks like it's just an update to their website!

I apologize if you were communicated incorrectly. We do allow reverse dns for any dedicated ip's purchased by our clients. In fact in our core portal you can do it on the fly.

Well, my Reseller Account has been dead for over 48 hours now. Forever Hosting's main site is still down, so there is no way to submit a ticket. Guess I could try to contact them through LowEndBox, but it is clearly stated not to use them for support issues (and Michael hasn't answered anything over there in over 24 hours). Sigh! The waiting shall continue.

It's too bad we weren't at least informed of this downtime for an upgrade ahead of time (or at all). To find out from Michael via some random post on another site is a tad upsetting.

My VPS is still online but has become unresponsive. Generally not an issue, but I can't access the interface on their website to reboot it manually.

I'm looking for a different host once I can get back in to dump my stuff. Too many hiccups and poor communication. The cheap rate is great, but I'd rather pay a little more for better uptime and customer service (though they are great at responding to tickets, they've never once emailed about scheduled downtime).

Good luck to the rest of you!

Just a heads up, the main site of Forever Hosting (and my Reseller Account) came back on line for me about 35 minutes ago. Yipeee! Off to pull a quick backup. (;

You can issue a reboot yourself by shelling into your VPS and typing `/reboot`. If you're unable to SSH directly into your VPS, you can get 'dropped' into it - log into your control panel seeing as it's working now and note the Console IP address and Username. The password is always the root password. This is particularly useful if you mess up your network configuration and lose remote access to it. Apologies if you already know this.

Although my VPS never went down, I agree that their support could be a lot better. My current uptime is at 194 days and before that I did a manual reboot. In all fairness, nobody else has offered a reliable VPS at the same prices so that's why I've stuck with them thus far but now there are a number of highly spoken providers that operate under registered businesses for that peace of mind. If this situation should occur again, I will move before my renewal.

The issue was that my VPS had locked up, and the website was down for a few days, so I was without service or the ability to reboot the VPS.

I understand their need to perform maintenance or upgrade their site, but doing so without first warning their clients or at least providing a temporary splash page or a way to reach them (even email was failing to route to them) is a little frustrating.

I love their costs, but I'm moving because I need better reliability and better hardware. It will be worth the investment. The low cost was great for "figuring out" what I wanted to do with the service, and now I know what I need.

All in all, good experience with Forever Hosting, but it's time to move on. =)
