Netriplex Power Outage - Again 5/15

Posted by WebManagerNY, 05-15-2011, 04:28 PM
Netriplex was just performing a scheduled simulation of a utility power failure. Guess what ?!?!

---
This update is to inform you that during utility failure simulation testing of power bus 1, the UPS did not hold the critical load despite every assurance given to us of its anticipated relaibility.
---

My entire 1955 Dell Blade Server and EMC Clariion Disk Array suffers yet another power outage at the hands of Netriplex.

For those that are keeping track:

Power Failure on May 15, 2011
Power Failure on May 12, 2011
Power Failure on Feb 24th, 2011
Internet Outage December 12th, 2010
Internet Outage October 4th, 2010

Further, I love their network status during this power outage...

"As of 5/15/2011 4:48:54 PM Eastern, there are no known issues."

Why bother with such a status page if it consistently fails to report on known interruptions of service?

Why didn't you get an A + B feed then . You're just asking for problems no offense by having a non-redundant power feed especially if their simulated testing failed.

Looks like your rack was affected. We haven't got any newsletter or update from Netriplex.

At this point knowing how UNreliable their power actually is, you should have either added B power, added your own RACK UPS, or moved to somewhere with more reliable A-Side power if cost is the issue.

if they provide a UPS fed power, you cannot add your own rack UPS, chaining UPS units is very bad, the power distortion can be great, not to mention some fire hazard. Most colo contracts I have seen specifically mention and deny permissions to do this, unless you have an unprotected utility feed, and even then most of them do not want you to have a UPS unit in the rack.
