enotch.com hosting went away

Posted by cutupguy, 01-31-2011, 01:35 AM
Not only my 5 sites hosted at enotch.com are down, but their own web site is down. This has happened about once a year for last 2 or 3 years. The last time lasted a few days. Time to move I think.

Thanks. The problem has always been with the Internet, rather than enotch.com servers. But it has happened to me so many times over the last few years that I have to make a change now. Trace route always stops before getting to them. Then it works for months, then same thing. They claim they are on first tier so I don't know what the problem is. It usually takes 3 days or so for connectivity to be reestablished. I am in Oregon, USA and would think there are lots of alternate routes to enotch servers, but I guess not.

Next time there a number of simple tests you can do:

1. Just-ping.com to check connectivity, packet loss, etc.

2. Traceroute from multiple locations using looking glass of a reputable backbone provider. E.g. http://lg.level3.net/

3. Host-tracker.com (version 1) to check http access from a bunch of geographic locations.

Thank you. Trace route from me in Oregon and from Newark, NJ both show the hops stop after 38.104.70.126. I can access the sites using TOR, not sure what the route is. I have new left an email for enotch support. I trust they can work it out from their end.

What's really strange is that this happens every 9 months or so.

UPDATE: my email bounced!
"<help@enotch.com>:
216.246.89.41 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 Requested action was not taken because this server doesn't handle mail for that user
Giving up on 216.246.89.41."

I got that address off their web site. There is no support telephone number shown. I'll try the sales phone#.

I had Dreamweaver set to upload pages when saved, but the ftp password was wrong. This caused too many login errors and the server banned my IP.

So the sites never were down...except to me.
