Is anyone else having issues with he.net.

It seems all their DNS servers are also down.

Yep, same here. Nothing seems to be routing over their network at present apart from a very weak link between Fremont and San Jose.

As you say, DNS is down too.

Probably best that this gets moved to the outages section before multiple threads get started.

I use the he.net nameservers for some personal domains - seeing a full outage here also.

Routing from Kansas to Fremont that would normally stay with HE all the way is going off HE after Denver, so some sections of the network appear OK.

Still seeing issues here!

htp://dns.he.net/ (I need five posts to use vB Code)

Is that HE-speak for a DDoS? ns5.he.net (Amsterdam) seems to be 100% zapped

For a few days now I'm having eventual issues with the NET TLD around the world. Is there really a problem with HE DNS or the problem is with .NET TLD nameservers?

Posted by FastServ, 01-03-2011, 02:02 PM
Ha, I was in the middle of IPv6 certification and was getting DNS query failure for ipv6.he.net... thought it was my own misconfiguration LOL.

On a more serious note, I'm not seeing any issues with HE.net transit (at least from Ashburn), this appears to be DNS related only.

Still having issues.. Contemplating moving away from HE.net DNS.

It must be a BIG!!! Ddos to take down all 5 of their nameservers.

Already copied the zones, Just a case of moving the NS servers.. But im not doing it unless i REALLY need to.

Agreed, Our v4 and v6 transit are both up with normal ping times etc.

Something must be attacking their dns.

no problems with HE.net transit out of Phoenix today. I don't use their dns resolvers (why would you?). Most of the time, you're better off running local resolvers on each of your servers. I know the standard complaints ("doesn't that waste ram?"), but all your cpanel servers are running bind anyway, so you may as well use localhost resolver, as you'll get a lot better performance and won't be subject to the remote resolvers going offline.

Im not using their resolvers to resolve, However ( as other have mentioned ) HE.net host some of our domains ( so we can do ipv6 testing )

Its not a major issue, Just nice knowing others have issues also.

Transit is FINE! and just like normal.

Posted by funkywizard, 01-03-2011, 03:51 PM
ah ok, didn't realize they host dns for people to resolve test domains. that makes sense.

Posted by FastServ, 01-03-2011, 05:15 PM
HE runs a [free] DNS hosting service as well.

HE run a service for testing IPv6. Have a look http://tunnelbroker.net/

I don't know if this issue had anything to do with he.net.

I noticed yesterday being unable to use either of level3's resolvers from my broadband connection.

I was always able to use them before so either level3 is no longer permitting comcast recursive dns, I was in a block that doesn't have it, or there was a much larger issue.

I switched to comcasts resolvers and everything worked but perhaps the problem reported was much larger than he.net.
