Rack outage at Frantech/BuyVM
Posted by DeltaAnime, 11-07-2010, 06:32 AM |
Hello everyone,
At 2:00 AM, November 7th our staff was informed of one of our racks losing connectivity. After a phone call with our datacenter we were informed
that a breaker had blown taking down our 2nd rack. After closer examination we have found that, at some point without our knowing, they had
installed extra cooling in our rack, piggy backing off of our power strips instead of their own.
This new usage, on top of the usual power fluxuations, caused our main breaker with them to trip. At this time we've had the cords removed
from the extra cooling they installed as well as written notice to the datacenter to not perform any other changes without letting us know
first.
To make sure there is no future power shortages, we've also removed a development server from this rack, giving an additional 1AMP of power.
At this time all downed customers are having their service restored as quickly as possible.
We apologize for this issue and well be taking even more steps to assure this doesn't happen again.
Thanks,
Francisco |

My VPS stayed up. Sorry to hear about this. Seems to be a pretty bad thing to do as a datacenter to connect extra power to clients setups without knowing how much they are even using or asking permission. |

All it well at this point
There was only 1 node that took a bit longer to spin up, node15, but almost everything was back in action fully within the hour.
It sucks for sure, but we'll take some extra steps just to be safe
