is anyone experiencing problems with burst or is it just me?

Im having trouble accessing my server with burst and even with their site, tracert reveals:

10 Timed out 108 Timed out 66.96.192.202 burst.net
I remember a few weeks back they have problems with gwy02 router being attacked by DDOS and router failure
Is it happening again or is this just me? |

Burst.net is down [again] as are a bunch of servers I've got under them.
Their network was spotty about ~45 minutes ago but came back up but now it's entirely down again. This has been the worst month thus far with their uptime. Almost daily I notice routing issues where all/most of their network go down for 20+ minutes at a time. |

We are currently experiencing a HUGE ddos attack.
Network Engineering is working on it.
We have been getting hit nightly for the past 7-10 days, increasing in size every night.

Is there any reason why this hasn't been announced network wide about the DDoS attacks for the past 10 days?
According to a ticket reply I just received, it's not DDoS-related. But rather:
Quote:
There was an issue earlier within our network which may have caused packet loss and other issues with your server. These issues have been resolved. If you should still have any issues with your connectivity, please provide a Trace Route (tracert) to your server. For more information on the issue, and if you were affected by it, please visit our forums via the following link http://forum.burst.net/forumdisplay.php?f=8.
|
This doesn't correlate with your post at all. Can you clarify the actual issue here? The forum post states the following:
Quote:
At this time, there is an issue within our network which may be causing
packet loss or other problems with your connectivity. This began at
approximately 12:26 AM EDT.
Please note that the incident is not currently affecting our entire
network. If you feel you are affected and trouble persists for more
than 10 minutes, please send a traceroute via support ticket.
Our technicians are working to have the matter resolved as soon as
possible.
|
Is it an issue within your network or an issue with the network issue OUTSIDE of Burst (eg: the DDoS you mentioned.) It states it's been resolved but at 12:03AM CST (the same time you posted) you state otherwise.
Just need some clarification here. |

Seems like this has been going on at FDC too. Same customer spread out over a number of DCs? |

Actually a Network issue causing packet loss is an acceptable description of a DDOS attack. |

Still doesn't correlate with his post here saying it's being worked on still but at the same time (on their forum + my ticket) states the issue is resolved.
Thanks. |

There were two separate items that occurred last night. The issue which you received a ticket response to (and that) the forums spoke of, and the DDOS attack. Both items caused sporadic packet loss. As you can see form the lack of people jumping in and saying "ME TOO", neither was network-wide, and only affected a small amount of clients. In fact, the DDOS attack was handled so quickly that a forum post about it seemed unnecessary. Our network team has been and is working right now on mitigating these DDOS attacks which are happening more frequently. The majority of them that we receive are not even causing a hiccup, but some do (like last night). I hope this helps you understand why you thought you were getting "mixed messages" from us. |

But this problem is always about this specific router of yours. And the problem is always the same - having 2 issues at the same time targeting one specific router. Maybe it's time to move all the servers hooked up to this router to something else?
Few weeks ago, I read the same topic that you had router issue + DDOS attack to the same router. I'm surprised nothing has been done to solve the problem once and for all rather than do workaround or temporary fixes only |

Please do not comment about something you know nothing about, nor make assumptions. An occasional DDOS attack will happen to every provider, so whatever incident you are referring to a few weeks ago is irrelevant--it is a fact of life in the web-hosting industry. This has nothing to do with a specific router being a target, nor is the router a target itself, nor do we have an problematic routers. Last night was a perfect storm that hit us, due to several issues, including maintenance from one of our transport providers which took out alot of our capacity of being able to deal with attacks, as well as some very large attacks hitting us---all being focused on the transport circuits left and the routing gear servicing them.
We have had 1.5+ years of near perfect service on our network since the complete upgrade/replacement of our network, and if a few issues once in a while that pop up (like DDOS attacks completely not of our own doing) make you jump ship...well, you are going to be changing web hosts alot then, because there is no such thing as 100% perfect service in this business. We do better than a pretty darn good job all things considered, probably far more than should be expected considering our pricing structure.

Wow why do you always have to be rude to people? You don't have to be rude to protect your name. Geesh... I am one of the people contributing to the success of your business by ordering VPS/servers from you so how you say things to people or customers is not helping this situation at all. Without us, you will not be here in this business.

I am merely stating what I see. This problem is always isolated to one routers of yours. I have friends hooked in another router and he doesn't experience any issue. You said this yourself, this is not a problem for the entire network, but this is a problem with a specific route. And you have to fix it because honestly, we are tired getting packet loss almost all the time.

You always flaunt about your upgrade/replacement of your network when I am not even talking about your poor service before you upgraded/replaced your network. I am talking about the issue at hand and merely suggesting a solution. Admit it or not, web hosting is a very competitive business and if we continue to experience packet loss, we (and you) will lose in this business. I don't care how you fix this problem but fix it for good.
I used to defend you with all my friends but after this response from you, I'm beginning to think to think otherwise ..
No offense burst but please you have to learn how to be humble and accept your fault if it is your fault. You don't have to be rude to defend your company. |

If you want or care to have my opinion, I think Burstnet should not sell DDoS protection on their servers. It leads people to think you have Gigenet or Staminus type mitigation when you do not.
Just my $0.02. |

Taken from : https://www.burst.net/network.shtml
"The network is protected from Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks via Cisco Guard™ protection systems."
And yet they are having outages from DDOS. |
