crucialp.com - server down for 26+ hours and continuing!
Posted by ExpertWebHostNET, 11-28-2009, 11:00 PM |
Hi,
I have an a/c with crucialp.com on their s369 server where I hosted only my billing system.
The server is down for 26+ hours now and they sent an email stating that the problem is not going to be rectified early..
Btw, this is not the first time they had down time..
This is what they sent now..
"We would like to provide you an update on the status of s369. While trying to
perform an OS reload, we ran into a number of unexpected issues which delayed
all the works. We are now copying the data in the server to another USB hard
disk. The size of data on the server is huge and it is taking a long time to
copy it. We expected to finish copying in around 6 hours, but it is taking
too long than expected. Once the copying is over, the server will be OS
reloaded and data will be copied back and restored. As the restoration
completes, all your sites will be back online. As of now, we don't have an
ETA, but please be assured that your team here is doing their maximum to get
it up and running at the earliest. We apologize for the inconvenience and
downtime this has caused you." |

As they have stated, they don't have an ETA of when everything will be back. You're just going to have to wait unfortunately. |

Im not sure what you mean by an a/c but their website sure doesn't suggest that they use usb hard drives.
"At Crucial Paradigm we only purchase the highest quality parts. All shared hosting servers come with a minimum of 4 CPU Cores, 4GB RAM, and Hardware RAID"
I'd be a little unhappy, I don't know of any USB raid and how big can a USB drive be?
Hopefully you get a refund. |

a/c means account and what they mean is they are storing the data to an eternal drive before restoring the data.
Sorry to hear about the inconvenience. |

I've opened a ticket for refund(Ticket ID : IZN-48356). But, no one is there to reply, it seems.
Btw, the down time continues and I believe they are enjoying weekend holidays!
What a great support we have at CrucialP.com! |

And finally, the server is back online.
Hope it stays that way without any further problems. |

Hi Everyone,
I'll briefly touch on the issue here. s369's file system corrupted we had tried a number of steps to restore the file system however to no avail. The work around we created was to copy the data to an external source while we rebuilt the server then copied the data back to the server.
S369's system configuration is 2 x Xeon E505's, 16GB RAM and 8 x 15k SAS drives in a RAID 10 configuration so apart from being extremely powerful it has a level of redundancy against drive failure but not a file system corrupting like what happened in this case. The process did take some time due to the amount of data that had to be copied from and to the server and we do apologise for any inconvenience that the issue has caused. |

Hi bagpiper,
The ticket that you had opened was in our Accounts/Billing queue which is not manned 24x7, our Technical Support team however is so any tickets submitted to that team are usually answered within 30 minutes.
Once again we apologize for any inconvenience the issue has caused you. |
