Cirtexhosting down for 20 hours, and still...!!

Posted by makehosting, 10-31-2009, 05:36 PM
Anyone using cirtexhosting around? One of their server: cherry been down for 20 hours (as I checked it) and still not up yet till now.

I tried to contact the support and they said cherry server went down due to some critical problems. FSCK is currently running on server.
I don't even know what FSCK means.

This is very bad, I have many commercial websites running on that hosting company and they all down.

Gossh...!!!

From my experience with Cirtex Hosting, cherry has always been a problem server.

I don't get why hosts can't simply switch out the drives or swap out the entire server and restore from backups and reduce the amount of downtime users experience.

Am i missing something, or wouldn't my idea be a much easier and quicker solution?

Because to restore backups takes time too beside of the fact that many accounts will lose many posts (on forums, blogs, etc).

PS: I'm wondering why my previous message was deleted.

With a RAID 1 on a server would you still get issues like this?

Posted by rustelekom, 10-31-2009, 08:52 PM
RAID can help but array rebuilding can took enough amount of time and disk operation will be slow during the process. But, it is not rare case when RAID array died too.
FSCK normally should not took such big time but may be there was few attempts to get filesystem to right order.

Hi,

We apologize for the inconveniences caused but the server needed emergency reboot, after the reboot we had damaged the system and this is not typical for us. FSCK seems to not be able to repair the system, so we may have to OS REINSTALL entire server and restore from backup which is only 4-5 days old max as we take weekly backups.

Again we apologize for the inconvenience caused, please look out on our forums for more updates.

We will credit accounts needed if you contact billing afterwards.

Yeah it's up now.

With more than 2 days of downtime, is it possible for me to ask compensation for our financial loss?

Wondering...

Please contact Cirtex directly for support/billing related issues. Since it appears everything is back online, I'll be closing this thread now. Thanks.
