What the heck happened to Yoozers?
Posted by zetazone, 08-14-2009, 09:55 AM |
My VPS server at yoozers has been shut down without notice. All of their contact emails and phone numbers are unreachable. I lost all of my site's data without having a chance to run a recent backup. All I got is an email accounts@avacero.com where I received a paypal subscription cancellation for my monthly subscription to yoozers. I emailed that address and no response. I cannot believe this is happening to me - that there are people like this. |

Oh wow, first off I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. This is the first I've heard about issues related to Yoozers. I try to visit their website (http://www.yoozers.com) but it will not load for me. Given what you said and the fact the website will not load it seems they have closed up shop. I hope other people on WHT know more about the situation and can further assist you. Please keep us posted and best of luck to you!
Sidenote: http://www.avacero.com (from accounts@avacero.com) does not load either... |

Well avacero.com loads for me but not yoozers.com |

Yeah, avacero.com loads okay. I emailed accounts@avacero.com and it did not bounce so it must be valid but I never got a response. They could have at least given me a few days notice before shutting down my server so I could at least backed it up or transferred it to another hosting server. I pmed Jason Slominski too because he posts here for Yoozer but no response from him either. This is the first time I've been scammed by a hosting provider and I have tried so many in a span of 9 years. I now wish I could have stayed with ThePlanet - but I could no longer afford them. |

Sorry to hear this but these things happen which is why you need to keep regular (at minimal daily) backups for yourself.
How long were you with them? The yoozers.com domain looks to have been registered on 06.02.09. If they are really that new it's one of the risks you have to take into account with hosts that have not established themselves (not that it doesn't happen to established players but the risks are significantly higher). |

also a good idea to avoid anyone using whois privacy! if it is a scam? - did you pay by paypal?
even scammers and get-rich-quick muppets like to present an air of respectability by posting here, and even going as far as registering companies! (- they can always close down the company later pretending they never took any income, or just leave it as a dormant company for a few years ..) |

If you cannot trust a registered company, who can you trust
I'd say stick to not going with companies with whois privacy, as well as going with a registered company not to mention look for reviews on them before you signup. The most important part may be the reviews. If customers are happy, usually a business wont just close up shop. It's when the going gets tough and the companies reputation gets damaged is when they get "going" instead of calling in damage control and trying to fix what ever happened. |

Your story is truly a sad one, if the scam is the case. I just have a hard time believing that a scam artist would dedicate themselves to write over 600 posts for WHT before committing a crime. That's true dedication ( sorry for the black humor, I am sure it does not amuse you right now).
I still hope that moving services to India (accrding to some posts in WHT) is behind this break and you will be compensated for the losses. |

The owner is very active in this forum or used to be at least. Hopefully, he's ok.

I can confirm that Yoozers will not be migrating and has been shut down. I contacted Avacero the day before shut down and received the following response:
"We were planning on acquiring Yoozers.com but the deal didn't come through finally due to some misunderstandings between both parties. Yoozers.com management transferred their PayPal payment transactions to us but this has been reversed as we are not moving forward with this acquisition.
As far as the servers go I cannot comment on them as I am not sure myself. If I were you I would definitely make your backups now to avoid a sticky situation.
Hope I could have been of further assistance."
I too was part of the group that lost my files, but due to suspicion I made quick backups just in time. Wiredtree it is! |
