BoxVPS Network Down?

Posted by rystiono, 08-01-2009, 01:14 PM
Anyone with BoxVPS?

According to Host-Tracker.com, BoxVPS only accessible from few location.

Is there a network issue or server down?

My VPS has been down for almost an hour now. Not able to get to boxvps.com via Uverse at home or Level3/Qwest at work.

I check boxvps.com using host-tracker.com and got only 3 location not failed.

If you want to see, check link below:

(change xx with tt)

Now, i'm waiting, i wish it just a network outage.

Their phone number goes to a fast busy for me or it just hangs up immediately. Phone: 866-642-9629

Second outage like this in less than a month.

It's as if their main switch is down (disconnected). An adjacent subnet to theirs is pinging fine. So hopefully recovery is in progress.

Regards

SpotCheck shows errors from all over the world so i'm thinking it's not a intermittent network problem.

Also looks like there are some DNS issues, maybe related, maybe not: http://intodns.com/boxvps.com

Our tertiary name server is down but I guess that's what you get for $3.95 a month.

I'm always surprised watching this forum how many companies don't have their own website off-site. Is it really that difficult to go sign up with godaddy or something and put your site/email there instead of on your own server?

If you can't trust your own network, why should other people trust you? Having your website located on your on network/servers shows that you have enough trust in it. However, even with the best networks/servers, things can fail. Best is to have failover DNS of some sorts running so people can see your announcements/contact you.

It's not about not trusting your own network, it's about realizing that stuff DOES go wrong, and when it does, if your site/email everything is down then it really shows a lack of thinking ahead. I agree failover DNS is an excellent solution!

Anyone know what the cause of the outage was? Appears everything is back up and working but not any real explanation.

It was definitely something network related. Uptime on my VPS is 21 days. It would be nice to get an RFO.

Posted by rystiono, 08-02-2009, 02:06 AM
Yes, it was definetly network related. My VPS got 25 days uptime.

10:04:37 up 25 days, 7:11, 1 user, load average: 0.01, 0.04, 0.00

I can tolerate, since i regulary create backup and it just my blog.
