Their main site is down for me too...

Hello,
In regards to our main website, it seems to be running just fine now. At the time of your postings however, there were no network issues nor any other outages, so I have concluded that it was just an isolated instance.
If you are a Virpus customer, and notice your service is down, feel free to open a ticket.
I am requesting that a mod close this thread.

I don't see a problem with leaving it open, and just letting it fall down the category once the issues are finished.
|
Posted by Ultima VPS, 02-03-2008, 02:37 PM |
Now that your site loads you also have a certificate error which shows up in Firefox.
|
Posted by VN-Ken, 02-03-2008, 02:39 PM |
Virpus.com does not have a SSL cert for there to have a cert error.
Again, please close the thread. This is pointless. If an actual customer notices that their services are down, then they can feel free to open a thread, or better, open a ticket with us.

It was definitely an error. Probably something else loading on the page. I noticed the page has changed now though. Might want to lose the defensive attitude though.

No attitude here I just do not see why WHT is the mainstream point of contact of addressing an issue on our site if you felt that there was one.
Nothing on our end was done since the time of your posting as far as anything changing on our site, and again, there is no SSL registered for Virpus.com nor anything linking to an secure page except for being redirected to our ordering site.
Edit: May want to check your site.. It's loading extremely slow.

It all works. UltimaHosts use this link: http://virpus.com/personal/

Posted by VN-Ken, 02-03-2008, 03:01 PM |
LOL... now you are drifting off into something entirely different.
FYI - A 'certification error' is not the same thing as a 404 Error. I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to achieve.
But I'm done here.

I have decided to private message Ken with an image if mods would like to remove this post.

This is a weird thread because I came here just because of an email I got from Virpus to say their site and VPS's ARE down.
Mine is certainly off line.

Just got this email:
Looks like everything is down now. Main site and my VPS.
|

Whats more worrying for me is that I've just discovered that all of my domains hosted on my vps have been hijacked and now go to a landing page for some link scheme! Could these be related? Or have I just been hacked at a rather bad time? I can't even access my IP's to check the server... Sample domain: idiotgames.info
|
Posted by Ultima VPS, 02-03-2008, 05:28 PM |
No thats probably because your domain name has expired. Nice timing though.
|
Posted by kingjj, 02-03-2008, 05:31 PM |
Has it? I don't believe so? Its all my domains, including ones I renewed two weeks ago. Theloveableidiot.com for example.
EDIT: You may be right after all... bugger!

Here is the DNS report for the domain:

Yep you were right, my apologies. I forgot to update my CC info so the server's domain failed to auto-renew. Have renewed it, and am changing DNS now. Cheers for your input, now if only virpus would come up again!

Virpus.com will remain down until later tonight due to security reasons. Customers have been briefed.

Yeah no problem. Good luck.

What I don't understand is why Virpus seem so prone to DDS attacks even though they now claim to be protected. Apparently this time the servers themselves were left unharmed but the line to Virpus got saturated so we all lost connectivity.
I know DDS attacks are an unfortunate fact of life but no one else seems to get targeted quite as much as Virpus.
It's a definite incentive to find another VPS provider.

I don't know either, otherwise we wouldn't be getting attacked Some loser with nothing else to do but to cause harm to others... pathetic.
We are working with the FBI, our carrier and their carriers to try to track down who is doing this. We already have an idea however today we will get one of the IP's that was hitting us, and try to see where it entered the internet from and attempt to get a subpoena issued for each provider involved to do so.
We are lucky to have a loyal client base, and our customers know that we are committed to the enhancement of security.
