DNS record issue

Posted by rubberduckbe, 11-03-2016, 07:13 PM
I got a little question about a DNS record in which I'm stuck at the moment. A client of me has a DNS record for a domain (lets call it domainname1) and wants two specific items in it.. 1. the website is on another server (VPS) met IP 78.47.**.*** 2. de mails should be forwarded from the cPanel on this server 185.18.***.** (where I setup a forwarder (without mailbox)) and redirected to an gmail.com address.. The DNS record is now specified as such.. domeinnaam1.be in NS1 r*bb*rd**k.be domeinnaam1.be in NS2 r*bb*rd**k.be domeinnaam1.be in NS3 r*bb*rd**k.be domeinnaam1.be in NS4 r*bb*rd**k.be domeinnaam1.be in A 78.47.**.*** (other VPS server) domeinnaam1.be in MX 0 domeinnaam1.be. mail in A 185.18.***.** (basic server but redirected to gmail account) www in CNAME witteravenatwork.be. ftp in CNAME witteravenatwork.be. I thought it was a simpele addaption but it seems that I'm unaible to get this setup working as mentioned. The only mail that arrives is from a test emailadress from another account on this shared server (185.18.***.**). Non of the other mails arrive, also not to be found in the logs so the're lost in direction - must be a simple issue/can't find it. Almost all of my clients keep the DNS zone as it is.. So I'm not confronted much with an adopted record. Hope any of you guys find it.. Thnx in advance!! Yves

Important to know is that the DNS record of this domain is parked on another name of this client (lets call it domainname2.be) and the DNS zone is specified in this clients cPanel of domainname2.be. I manage all the records per WHM. I don't know this info is crucial..

You mentioned that domeinnaam1.be is at 78.47.**.*** and mail is at 185.18.***.**. As such, the MX record is not pointed to the correct location as it is pointing to the web site VPS. Change the MX to be mail.domeinnaam1.be since it is pointed at the mail server.
