Unmetered in USA for video streaming

Posted by nkty, 10-27-2016, 11:58 PM
I am looking for an unmetered Dedicated server with at least Single Xeon 3450 and 16 GB ram and 1Gbps The most important thing is that it has good connection to ISP providers because it will be used for video streaming. USA or Canada will do Last edited by nkty; 10-28-2016 at 12:04 AM.

Yes, here are a lot of options in Web Hosting Offers. But unmetered traffic costs more than a standard server order. For video streaming you will need that for sure. I would recommend you to inform a provider about your project before place an order.

The X3450 is a very old CPU btw. Several generations behind the E5 Xeon used now. Any reason you listed that particular model?

Agreed - I was basically thinking the same thing as you're going to be video streaming. Is this because of budgetary restraints or what?

Whats your budget ? 1Gbps Unmetered expensive.

Do you have copyrights for the content you will be streaming or will you be generating a ton of DMCA complaints?

Do you have an idea from where in USA most of your visits come from? It's best to pick a location closest to there for best connectivity. 1 Gbit unmetered in USA is not that cheap, what budget are you aiming at?

X3450 is fully enough to stream 1Gbps. We use it on streaming servers. Also it is cheaper than E5.

I am currently with OVH using with the Premium bandwith upgrade. Connection is not that great to all parts to North America not sure if paying for the Platinum upgrade will improve it? Anyone have experience with that?

I think that is better to get in touch with urrent provider and ask them if the upgrade will help you. I suppose no - because that depends on the network providers of the current provider. If you still want to find new server - try to test them before you pay for the one from the locations your are interested. That might appear quite complicated - but in this case you will get the server you wanted with good connection speed in the locations you were interested.

For the OVH money, you might be willing to try Cogent with FDCservers. Latency is very low across the US from their Denver location.

Well, those who sell cheap bandwidth usually apply certain network policies in order to apply certain routes and therefore limit bandwidth utilization. if you have a reasonable budget, you'd discuss your project with few providers and compare the options. One of the option to get better quality is to drop the "unmetered 1 Gbps" requirement and to go by the average used bandwidth on a 1 GigE port.

Since you are having problem with OVH, I would recommend increasing your budget so you can get a server setup on a good network.
