Offsite WHM+cPanel Backup

Posted by AngusWH, 08-24-2016, 04:54 PM
Can anyone reccommend either a service or operating system good at keeping backups of WHM+cPanel servers. Its more of organising. My WHM servers currently backup using SFTP in the default WHM backup feature. I've tried JetBackup Manager but didn't like it - it kept causing issues. Thanks, Angus.

Maybe R1Soft? ....

What's wrong with the default out of curiosity?

Well its true that most of the time Jetbackup manager times out while backing up the things so using it is not worth .. R1 soft is any time good solution for the backup.

You can try R1Soft, CPRemote, Restore Manager. We use CPRemote so far so good.

Any issue using the default WHM backup feature? You can try R1Soft Or use rsync/NFS, so sync internal backup to storaged machine

I'm using CPRemote backing up to Amazon S3. So far it's working perfectly

GK~root REM is my suggestion. I wrote a review last month, very nice. Then something like Backupsy or EcoVPS.

CPRemote here too for the last 3 years and it just works with no issues

R1soft is much better in my experience, much simple to handle.

Another vote for cPremote. Been using it for many years and it works wonders.

Hi, Just wanted to add my reply here (I am from the JetBackup team..) To prevent timeouts we encourage users to use remote ssh backup destination with rsync as a backup engine. This should be the fastest and most stable way to backup files. We often see users trying to backup accounts with millions of files using FTP... it will take forever. Furthermore, while Amazon S3 is the most common backup destination - it's not the fastest. Their API is way beyond the good old simple "rsync". Just my two cents Eli.

I won't say cpremote is bad or too good, but is not for me and sometimes in restore process is not working (in my case). I start using JetBackup, not the perfect solution, but is a good one. I am using this on a few servers and looks OK. The cpanel plugin is nice and easy.

A pretty good cost-effective solution is Backupsy and irsync. (https://www.rfxn.com/projects/irsync-incremental-rsync/) Once it is setup, very reliable. A bit of a pain to restore -- you'll have to write your own restore scripts.

I've been looking into Amazon S3 but find the pricing so confusing. I've only had experience with Backupsy, which is basically a glorified VPS with lots of space but does the job well.

i quite not understand your question.. the default backup system is not good from cPanel? why? if you looking a server to host your data just buy a cheap dedicated from a trusted provider there is lot of cheap and make the default cPanel backup to backup in this server as remote..

News to me, sure that is an issue with the plugin itself or your server? What didn't restore exactly? It works fine for us. Thanks.

It works fine for us too. If there are any config issues, the help desk team is always more than happy to help.
