Help me choose WiredTree vs KnownHost VPS plans

Hi everyone! I am planning to transfer from a managed wordpress hosting to a VPS hosting, either WiredTree or KnownHost. I would like to ask for your comments or suggestions. My sites are all wordpress based and most of them are niche sites, with one or two that I am really planning to grow traffic. I am choosing between the two VPS plans: WiredTree's Pure SSD VPS for $55/month or Knownhost's SSD-Powered Managed VPS for $35/month Which do you think is the better plan? My target audience is primarily North America (US). Is the SSD plan worth it? Or should I just opt for the non-SSD plan? I noticed that the SSD plans have beefier specs. Your inputs, comments or suggestions are much appreciated, specially for those who have tried these services. Thank you!

Honestly, SSD is the best option if you need to run native applications that are I/O extensive. If you are a programmer or developer, this is a must. If you want to serve pages to your visitors in the most optimum way, it doesn't only depend on the disk itself. You need to have a better web server for example litespeed or nginx rather than apache, choose the nearest datacenters to your viewers (guess you knew that already), check the route and ping from their test ip and if they provide looking glass is much better. Most of all, what differs web host from each other is their support. If you pay the extra premium and get the best support then it's really worth it. Just my 2 cents.. Been lurking in the forums for awhile now doing my VPS research and homework, thought I'll share some views on this... :-P

I've used both of these and they both are very good host. I ended up with Knownhost and would highly recommend them. Over the years they have been the best host for many reasons.

I would certainly opt for the SSD packages as they'll make a real noticeable difference in I/O operations.

I think that if you want to make right decision you need to complete some testing work by yourself. Just contact both companies and ask for test accounts. Then adjust your own tests and after that decide. That would be wise not to make your choice based on reviews (opinions of strangers which might be running other kind of solutions then yours) or price (you get what you pay for). Tests results will hint you right way. Also I would not recommend to pay in advance for more then 1 month for the service at the begging.

What @EugeneWHZ said. Test and after you make up your mind, go with a yearly plan to lower the total cost. Both are reputable companies. @cglegion 's already said a few things which are all important, so I'd like to expand a little bit and add my cents. When it comes to Wordpress, regardless of what you choose (VPS, Dedicated), you have to have a fine caching solution. So SSD is important (mainly because there is less chance of a noisy neighbour starving you for disk I/O, but also for MySQL boost), but caching is key. Preferably, caching solution that uses memory for caching instead of disk solutions (seek times in nanoseconds vs. seek times around the millisecond range). This is where the speed is. Also, since your target audience is US, It'd be best if you could get a central location, so the latency is equally low to most of the states. Top it off with a CDN like CloudFlare and you'd be good to go. In terms of what web server to use - it depends on the caching solution. If you cache on disk and the web server still needs to serve the cached content itself, don't go with Apache, it will get expensive (in terms of system resources). Nginx is great, and is my choice of server, but LiteSpeed works very well too. However, LiteSpeed is not free. Since you're looking for managed VPS, most probably you will not be able to go with Nginx. These are just a few of the things that matter.

Both are good companies. I do like the SSD for their performance. Try to contact the customer service of both companies and find the best offer for you.

Yes. But I do not recommend to start with annual payments. First months do monthly payments and then when you are confident and sure - go ahead and pay for 1 year or so and save funds.
