VPS Security Issues with SSL

Posted by brandonturpin, 02-02-2016, 03:24 PM
So I just purchased an unmanaged VPS. The host name of the server I set to main.domainname.com, I installed cpanel and whm. I migrated all the sites from my reseller account, including the domain name that is the same as the host name (domainname.com) I purchased an SSL for the primary domain name that is hosted on its own account and it works. The issue I have is when I go, or any customers go, to cpanel it gives a security warning, that it is using a self signing ssl. The ssl is for the domain name of main.domainname.com. As I have a wildcard SSL on my primary domain name account would that not also cover main.domainname.com? If not than where do I go to set up a SSL that is verified since I do not have a cpanel for main.domainname.com. Also we set up a dedicated IP address for our domain name, and ever since then when I go to domainame.com/whm or /cpanel it actually forwards me over to main.domainname.com/whm where before, and on other sites on the system, it never showed main. I am wanting to secure my server so customers can log into cpanel and do so with the security of knowing their information is secure.

When you install an SSL for your site it does not apply to services like cpanel, ftp, or mail. You have to install it for those: https://documentation.cpanel.net/dis...L+Certificates For a wildcard SSL, any subdomain the base domain it is signed for will work. Perhaps also when you have a cPanel question, it may be more appropriate to post it in the cPanel forums where the user base is specifically geared at addressing cPanel problems.
