Any budget managed VPS with cpanel/whm in uk?
Posted by mark0168, 10-28-2015, 10:00 AM |
I want to start two small sites in UK.
I ordered one with futurehosting because they have UK and AU datacenters.
I just wonder it's good that I can have an au vps with them latter as well.
But they ask for photo ID, so the order is canceled.
I don't buy vps from the hostings that ask for photo ID.
So I still need an uk managed vps,
My budget is about USD$35 monthly
1. managed service
2. cpanel/whm
3. datacenter in uk
4. won't ask for photo id
( can call for verification as the current USA managed hostings I am staying with)
Can anyone recommend me some UK VPS hostings so that I can have one.
thanks for help.

I have bought a Godaddy VPS on UK datacenter today since I have an account with them already.
Even cheaper than futurehosting.

Cancel the godaddy's vps for that I just found that they cancel ticket and livechat support.
I find it for now because I only bought domains from them. Not contact Godaddy support for years.
Maybe I should google more now.

Why did they cancel ticket? What did you ask?

It seems you are in search of a provider for VPS. If yes then share the specifications you need for this VPS like RAM, HDD, CPU, bandwidth, etc.

My mistake, I should said that Godaddy no longer offer ticket or email support to anyone.
So, I could not open a ticket with them.

@mistical We did discontinue our email support. However, we do offer live chat now. It can be accessed here:

The price seems decent to me.
The managed VPS in USA I have now are all more expensive than yours.
It's too bad that I need an uk vps for now, not an usa vps.
1 GB RAM
1 Dedicated Core
30GB Disk Space
Raid 10
300 GB Bandwidth
1 GBPS Port
CPANEL/WHM
Fully Managed VPS
UK IP
The spec above is good enough for me now.

Within your budget, it should be enough to get the specification you want. Just do some search on offers forum, you will find many that match or even better price.

You may finder it better to get an unmanaged vps and get support else where...

You seems have US data center only so far? I need an UK IP.

It's a pity that Expert Tech IT Ltd doesn't offer managed service included.

Hi
In reference to your photoID, have you been asked for this before?? Usually this only happens when your order is flagged as high risk.
|
Posted by jenok, 10-29-2015, 04:56 AM |
Sorry to clarify, I am not from PlatiumVPS.
|
Posted by mark0168, 10-29-2015, 07:50 AM |
This is an old issue, I once opened a thread about this on WHT many years ago.
I think a hosting that ask for a photoID is not worth to stay with.
High Risk?
Who is having higher risk?
The one pay money or the one offer a hosting space?

You can get a VPS from virtualservers.host (Part of Iomart), Their price is cheaper then most of UK providers but want to warn you to take a daily backup.
They take 2 to 4 week to upgrade VPS plan because of slow billing support but tech support is fast, upgrade is manual.
Again: Take a daily backup of your data on offside server.

Posted by mark0168, 10-30-2015, 02:25 AM |
Their price is really low.
But their website let me feel not so safe, as their help webpage is displaying while I click now:

But their website is a owned by IOMart which is a big company however you can take daily backup of your VPS and If anything goes wrong then restore from backup or move to other host.
Issue with them: VPS Termination/Data loss or security breach.
I know some other company but their price is Euro 15 for 512MB RAM.

I googled and find one: solvps
looks good price, not sure if they ask for photoID.
Hardly find their review here and they have no phone support.

I didn't know iomart launched virtualservers.host though they are unmanaged so no good as mark0168 asked for fully managed.

Hi mark,
Be careful with fully managed servers, they sound great, but sometimes support is out sourced and your can have support Questions delayed with some companies, even big ones.
I have personally found that even paying £60+ for a managed VPS doesn't guarantee you a good support service, and support Questions regarding the VPS were always escalated unless it was a simple web issue.
Good luck in your search!

I'll confirm that £66 million annual revenues, traded on London Stock Exchange , owns several brands and 8 UK data centers. Their VirtualServers.host brand doesn't offer managed VPS though...
It wasn't so much a launch as a rebranding (or rescue) after ThrustVPS/DamnVPS shut down earlier this year in April (see http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1469094 )

Solvps is terrible.
I am so regret to choose Solvps for my new sites in uk.
I should take more time to find a good reputation uk hosting.
Solvps VPS: Misconfigured, I cannot install scripts till now after a week.
It's ridiculous how a VPS hosting cannot set a cpanel vps available to use?
Solvps Support: No idea what or how to do the new vps setting issue.
Not mention the support time, average 8 hours above to answer a ticket with an useless reply
Refund: they seems won't refund me for they said the vps is online without an issue...
I browse their webpage and find they seems no refund policy.
My partner say that they might be just a reseller or support outsourced.
I think I am fooled by solvps.
$2x is not a big deal for me, hope my review can be helpful for anyone who want to with solvps.
It's terrible with solvps.

if support cant help you, you really should consider moving to a new host! Ideally a good one with good support agents.

Did they resolve your issue? If they say the VPS is online and working properly than it should be working.
I also found this: https://www.solvps.com/secure/knowle...nd-policy.html

No, just a reply that they don't refund for "the vps is online" many hours ago.
Till now,All the tickets are still pending, especially the one that ask for refund.
I think the review and refund policy on their site just for decoration.
I know it's no chance to get the money back, even paypal don't protect the deal for service.
Anyway, I am glad that at least I only spent $2x with them to buy a vps that I cannot install scripts.

I am actually using BuyVM and have my own VPS as a failover point should my existing hosting bork on me. They offer Linux and Windows VPS hosting for about $10 for the base package. The greater the functionality you need, the price goes up from there. I'm fine with the small package since I will only be using it as an emergency failover.

Well, I am looking for uk managed vps again.
I am thinking
https://www.tmzvps.com/managed-vps-hosting/openvz-vps/
Or
http://soladrive.com/managed_linux.html
They all offer $2x~3X with managed service.
No phone support
Hard to choose, looks no big difference to me.
I may need to search for their reviews before I decide.
I don't want to stay with another solvps.

The high risk is on the part of the hosting provider. They incur penalty charges (often higher than the transaction value itself) when faced with fraudulent transactions. That's why if your transaction has any suspicious characteristics and/or is not fully 3D Secure authenticated it will quite often result in manual fraud screening checks.
Phone verification is great in theory, but there's no way to guarantee that you're dealing with the cardholder when you talk to someone on the phone. All it verifies is a phone number, and due to VOIP / Skype etc. even geographical phone numbers are easy to get hold of these days.

I doubt that a hosting can make sure the scanned photoID is real.
Even a hosting has a photoID scanned doesn't mean the buyer authorized.
I opened a thread with lots of replies from hostings and users like me for this photoID topic many many years ago here on WHT.
If you are interested in, you can search it.
Fully 3D Secure authenticated is also an another joke.
I has been faced some cases that "3D Secure authenticated transactions" are "canceled by bank" "after 60 days".
These 3D authenticed customers insist that they didn't use their credit card to buy our advertising service.

We regularly reject fake photo IDs. We do not just request photo ID, but also signed authorisation form from the cardholder, so we have a signature authorisation for the transaction as well. Of course this is only required in cases where there are potential fraud flags, but the point I was trying to make in relation to the thread (given its starting point) is that it's not at all an unreasonable request for an internet retailer to ask for additional proof that you are the cardholder. There is a high fraud risk for online sales of any kind, and especially for something like hosting where there is nothing getting dispatched to a physical address.
If there is fraud, it's the hosting provider that pays the bill for that. It's certainly no joke.
If you find it unreasonable to be asked for additional proof in order to open a new account with a hosting provider, just stop to think for a while what you would do in their position. How would you try to avoid the risk of fraudulent customers - especially when those fraudulent customers often have other risks attached to them such as DDoS attacks or other kinds of malicious activity (phishing pages, brute force etc.).
I suppose this is an issue to take up with your merchant bank provider. The whole point of 3D Secure authentication is to provide the liability shift from merchants to issuers, because the issuers participate in the transaction validation (i.e. the 3D Secure step is performed by the card issuer).

For a managed VPS in UK with cPanel, I would recommend rshosting
I cannot guarantee if they wont ask for your photo-id, but they offer decent vps with cpanel which are fully managed.

I had time to buy the new vps last week.
I went for Tmzvps first, but failed to order after I submitted the form.
Their system automatically set my order as Fraud for unable to recognize my address.
I thought it's a new experience for me. My address cannot be recognized, interesting.
Since their system is unfriendly to my address, I guess they may require photo id if I contact them for the issue.
So, I just quit tmzvps.
Then I went to SolaDrive.
It's good to find they have live chat support since no phone support.
I have to say it's easy for me to get a new vps from SolaDrive without trouble.
After Cpanel installed, I found the same configuration issue happened as I had with Solvps.
The issue is 500 error about "the 777 permission is not allowed."
This time, SolaDrive can offer me the answer that Solvps didn't.
It turns out just a PHP handler choice.
The latest Cpanel default is suPHP not DSO.
A little pity for Solvps, I think their price is decent and speed okay but seems no luck on their managed service.
Short support time but no idea about the suPHP problem.
Solvps refunded me for that they didn't find out the suPHP problem,
so I think Solvps is still a safer hosting to pay for.
So far, my choice for a budget managed VPS in UK is SolaDrive:
Price higher to lower
SolaDrive >Tmzvps > Solvps
Friendly order system
SolaDrive > Solvps >>>>TmzVps
Managed service
SolaDrive > Solvps
no idea about Tmzvps
Live Chat support
SolaDrive
I'm just staying with SolaDrive for few days till now.
Hope there is no big issue in the future, then I may order more budget vps from SolaDrive for my new projects.

hi
change php to DSO should fix the issue you have with 777 folders! however your apps should just work without 777 permissions if using suPHP
|
Posted by mark0168, 02-02-2016, 06:57 AM |
Yeah, but a Managed hosting at least should be able to tell customers that it's a suPHP not a vps bug.
Not just keeping saying that the vps is normal.
Since I know suPHP issue, I googled about it.
DSO is secure as suPHP when I am the only user of the VPS.
In this situation, suPHP bring more troubles.

HI
it sounds like you knew more than the host did!
hopefully your new hosting firm are technical!

Please note that the system is automated, so there could be some false positives as with any system. Feel free to open a billing ticket and we would be glad to accept your order. Sorry for the inconvenience.
