How to start?

Hi VPS Gurus! VPS newbie here. I'm trying to start my own vps business. This is the first time I'm trying to do this, so I have completely no idea about stuffs. Is it possible for a complete newbie to do this? I know that I can join 'white label reseller program' offered by some vps hosts, but I found that the price they offered are too high and the discount too low. I read somewhere here that it's cheaper to rent a server and create my own vps plan (that if I get that right). I will need something like E5 server - Windows Server 2012 Standard with datacenter located in US. So, can anyone help me as from where to start? and where can I rent a dedicated and cheap servers? Thank you. Have a good day

Check out the Running a Web Hosting Business forum. The first sticky has some information. I assume others in that forum would have more information. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=516601

The cheapest and most flexible solution would be to rent an unmanaged dedicated server and install your own virtualization. However if you're not very experienced I would recommend a manged server and the company you're renting off will be able to assist you with the technical side of things. Kind Regards, Andrew

If your fresh meat to the industry then I highly suggest get yourself a dedicated server that is managed or hire a management company to do the job for you. There is a lot to it other than purchasing a server installing the software and then just creating accounts and selling them. You'll need to manage and take care / look after the server at almost all times and ensure that its always running in a healthy black listed free environment. Have you ever dealt with web hosting at all what so ever? They are many ways to approach this just be sure to do research up on the topic before doing anything so that you can ensure you are not confused what so ever and so that you and your future clients can have a good environment for their websites and so on. Also check the running a reseller business tutorials out here on wht there is a lot of useful information there that will possibly help you and answer any other questions you have on this matter.

It appears that you are not ready, based on your questions. You have far too much to learn to succeed. It is not possible for a complete newbie to do this. Sorry, but it is the truth.

Agree with vps_newbie, you should try to start selling shared host first before selling VPS, it requires much more knowledge before you can start selling VPS and provide support to your clients.

Honestly speaking? I would look into hiring someone with the needed skillset. It really shouldn't be hard to find someone familiar with the cookie-cutter WHMCS+SolusVM offerings you see in the market these days, nor are they really expensive if you know where to look. Now of course, this assumes that you're ready to put in at least SOME capital into the business. It wouldn't really be much a business if you weren't and would just be a hobbyist project at best.
