Recommendation for a Server Management company for Debian - NO panels
Posted by jayce, 12-11-2009, 02:34 AM |
Hi,
I am looking for a management company to manage my server: Debian Etch with NO panels.
This is a server I had setup myself and I am really busy and I need a serious server manager company that could take over my "part time" administration job.
I had previously selected PSM (Premium Server Management) based on the good reviews on WHT but they replied to my quote request (quickly ) stating that they do not support Debian
Rack911 seems to be good but they did not even bother answering my quote request (ticket closed !)
My requirements:
- 24 / 7 Monitoring with Reboot
- server optimization (LAMP Server)
- Firewall configuration as necessary
- Pro-active management (security upgrade, software upgrade)
- Load balancing configuration if needed (Apache/Mysql) as I plan to take a second server shortly
- DDOS Protection & Mitigation
- Prevent Port Scanning (such as fail2ban or other tools)
- Disaster Recovery planning
- Software installation upon request
- shell script optimization upon request
- Improve Backup/Restoration scripts
My budget: preferably around PSM price ($25-50 per month range)
Can you please recommend a reliable server management provider (if possible one you have used) with fast respond time?
Thanks a lot.

you can find here and ask them about Debian support

Bobcares.com should fit your requirements and they have been in the business for a while now with over 300+ engineers and 3 locations. Can't go wrong there.
Your other option would be to contact your datacenter/provider and see if they offer Managed Services.

I came to know your price afterward.
That said, I find regrettable that potential customers have to come WHT to report how unhappy they are, in order to get attention from a company.
I have logged that ticket on Nov 18th, ticket (LJU-198409) is closed with no explanation.
If I was really interested by your offer, the lack of feedback from your sales/presales department gives me already a bad opinion on the company in general.
As a potential customer, I don't care if the technical team is good and responsive, I will deal with A company not A technical team.
If you are not interested in having new customers, you should remove the sales/presales contact form

Hi Antony,
Thank you for that recommendation, but they are over budget.

I understand your frustrations. There are time's when existing customers are being tended to (they are more important then new revenue, and I am willing to lose new customers to keep existing customers happy), in which sales is put on the back burner. Your case was just that and the ticket was closed by the system.
Sorry for the inconveniences.

I'd recommend increasing your budget by a bit. For $25-$50/mo you will not find a competent administrator to manage a *non*-panel server with Debian to boot. Good luck to you. There is a reason why PSM only charges $29/mo, it's because they specialize in Cpanel/Centos setups, that's it.

Based on your list and requirements, it may be difficult to find a service provider who can accomplish what you are after in your price range. Your top 4 items are standard and can probably be done in your price range. However your request has some pretty time consuming tasks requiring some pretty highly skilled technicians.
