Server uptime

Posted by vinniex1, 04-22-2014, 10:31 AM
I have a linux server, what are the options of displaying server uptime on my site as a graph or percentage?

Have you consider pingdom or newrelic? Both services are quite good and comprehensive at monitoring your servers uptime. Nagios could also do a great job if you know how to set it up.

We're using Pingdom ourselves, works great. You can set it to filter particular words, too (i.e. display as down if your monitoring page contains the phrase "MySQL error" for example)

Again we also recommend pingdom! We like the fact that they have an app that provides notifications so we can monitor our servers effectively

Pingdom is good but they only give one monitor for free. If you are looking for a free alternative I highly recommend UptimeRobot. You can easily show an uptime percentage using their simple PHP API. Graphical display is also possible and they have a demo and source code available on their website.

Sure Pingdom is really good. New features added lately.

I don't really trust Pingdom too much (and of course it is really expensive). I used serviceuptime and was better and more close to reality. But you can your own uptime system with no problem, if you want free. Regards

You might want to add another monitor into the mix, we often see that either it says something is down, or it doesn't catch downtime (e.g. testing to block their agents for 30 mins). We use http://nodeping.com/ and Pingdom and New Relic at same time

Statuscake, nodeping, node query and pingdom are great. I've been using Monitive lately and have been very happy with them. So much so that I'm considering switching a few of my credit card processing servers and Oracle servers to their system. Check it out, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I am currently using Uptime Robot as it is very simple to integrate uptime percentage and status to a website.
