How to know if im hosted on a VPS or Dedicated Server?
Posted by pedrojose, 05-16-2014, 11:40 AM |
Hi,
I have a basic shared reseller hosting account (Linux + cPanel) and i want to know if there is a way for me to find if im hosted on a VPS or a Dedicated Server.
In a simple way, i want to know if the hosting company that i bought the Reseller plan, uses a Dedicated server or a VPS to host their Reseller accounts.
In a simple way, is there any way i can find out if im hosted on a VPS or in a Dedicated Server?
Thanks

Hi pedrojose login to you WHM, check cpanel logo on the top, if you see "WHM VPS Optimized" that mean you are hosted on a VPS
if you see "WHM Accelerated" that mean you are hosted on a Dedicated Server
However, this method does not guarantee well as logos can be changed

if you don't already have ssh access, singlerack's reply will solve your issue faster

just because your your on a virtualization layer it does not mean they do not use the entire dedicated server.

I'm surprised that no one else has stated the obvious. You can always ask your provider. If they've been around for a while I would presume they'd answer honestly.

OP probably trusts WHT more than his provider?

Therein lies the heart of the issue. No one here @ WHT can truly know unless the OP has shell access or is on a reseller account. If your provider isn't honest you don't want to do business with them in the first place.

True. But he can check by looking at logo in cPanel! OP managed to get the info form WHT which he/she can now check at any provider from now on, instead of having to ask each and everyone provider and relying on them to be upfront about it.
But if provider isn't using cPanel and access isn't provided, then yes, they'll just have to ask the provider.

Yes there are various methods to tell as mentioned earlier in the thread. However, it isn't always the case, I believe the provider should always be up front and forthcoming with their clients.

If this is a WHM/cPanel account, use this -->> http://verify.cpanel.net/ to check the server hostname. It'll tell you the license type.
