Any recomended resources for learning Server Administration and Management?
Heya.
Was just looking for some input on how others learned how to do system management. I really couldn't find any good books. There was one on amazon.com called Web Server Administration.http://www.amazon.com/Web-Server-Adm...9391574

At the OS-level, a great generalized Systems Administration book would be "Linux Administration Handbook" (ISBN #9780131480049). It gives the reader great exposure to the Linux environment, some shell scripting, and the ins and outs of the kernel. If you've got the time and want a practical approach to systems administration, this is a great catch.

Hi,
Allow me to jump in here with a related question; are there any good training resources for Cpanel/WHM management?
We are moving from a reseller access to several dedicated servers running Cpanel, and the WHM interface (with root) has a lot of functions that we'd really like to learn better..
Thanks,
TMM

You can't learn server administration/management from a book. Books are good to learn the basic commands but they are not going to teach you full administration or how to debug every situation. The best way to learn is by spending a lot of time experimenting and practicing on a test server.

Amen to that, you can read all the car manuals/books in the world yet they wont teach you how to drive like Schumacher Trial, error and google is the way to go.

www.hostgeekz.com is personally a favorite of mine with many useful articles, not sure if it is still being updated.

I am in 100% agreeance with this post. Server administration is a rapidly changing field. I believe it is way to rapid for a book to well document it. The best way is just setting down at your command window, and experimenting. If you destroy your server in the process, or something you do leads to the latter destruction of your server..... you have now learned something... and that was what not to do in a command window. That is all

I agree books can guide you to the basics and you can do by doing a RHCE or RHCT course, Then setup a trial server and experiement will all the panels and applications whatever is required for webhosting administration.
