I had a lot of talk with them.. They did not tell me the reason why is it.. who did the spam so i can terminate him. What you people suggest i should do. Sam

Stop wasting money and go with another managed hosting company.

Get a fresh ips, monitor emails being sent carefully if someone is spamming from your server. Other managed providers would be able to provide you a cheaper server

If this is "managed" its their duty to act and resolve spam issues. Since the management is done by your provider itself, such abuse cases must be resolved by 24 hrs in most cases. Heck, its managed. Such stuff shouldn't even happen. Impose restrictions on the amount of emails that can be sent by an account per hour or something.

They even did not tell me the cause of it... Hopefully i will change the server... So the review about hostgator is DONt use hostgator dedicated servers... and i m seeing at this forum.. they are advertiser here.... I have just paid them 497 today because i could not transfer so easy and quick. The thing i did not quote was.... They given me a windows server.. whose first email went to my gmail spam box... What a service. Please advice if i am wrong.. or how should i proceed. Thanks Sam

Hostgator is a great company - they do try to help you with any issue. I would suggest you to talk to the owner or to a manager and express your problems.

Sam, I would recommend having their support team check your server first and find out the root cause of this issue, if it is a user spamming from your server you would want to terminate that user or let them know about it so they can take preventive measures to ensure this doesn't occur in the future; could be an exploited script for all we know. The reason I recommend doing this first because it will happen again where your ips will be blacklisted if the source isn't pinpointed and resolution provided. Antony

Thanks Sam Sam, I have been a HostGator customer for over 2 years and to say "DO NOT USE HOSTGATOR SERVERS" because someone was sending spam from your server is all kinds of wrong. You stated that you had good expierence with hostgator, I'm sure if you work with them they will get you taken care of. You have control over the server also, you could limit the amount of email out and everything. Don't write HostGator off like that, its not their fault that you did not take any action on preventing spam.

As far as I know, providers, even managed, do not handle SPAM complaints for their clients. Generally the complaint is forwarded to the client and the client has a set amount of time to resolve the complaint. That said, we do everything we can to help our clients isolate the problem server side that it can be resolved.

yes.. you forward the complaint to client about spam.. here my host does not know if there is any spam going on. Sam

Odds are if your IP addresses are being blacklisted as spam then your provider has been notified as well. When multiple IP's are blocked, it's not uncommon to find mass IP-blocks being blacklisted as well. If that's the case, I'm sure other customers are complaining. My advice: Stay persistent and continue to follow up with your provider; emphasize the importance of resolving the issues, not only because it affects your business but it affects theirs as well. bsh
