Switching servers with reseller provider

| So I have been with my current reseller provider for just over two years now and I have had some issues with server response time (page load speed) and downtime. I think that the company themselves are good, they have fast response and resolution time for my tickets, but the server or data centre I'm in is problematic.
I have spoken with their support team and they are willing to move me to a new server; however, I want to understand the implications for moving my environment to a new server. I'm running cPanel / WHM and WHMCS. I have a dedicated IP and SSL cert for my business as well as dedicated IPs for some of my clients.
Is there an established process for moving WHM across servers or will this be a massive headache?

| There chance to change all your dedicated IPs when moving to new server, headache will start if its happen

| If they have root access to both servers then the move should be straight forward - they will need to setup a new dedicated IP address and re-issue the WHMCS license but it should be relatively simple.
Will you need to change nameservers or are both server on a DNS cluster? If you need to change the nameservers then will take a few hours to propagate fully.

| They do have root access on the servers (so I am told). Not sure how their DNS is configured.
So for my regular shared clients (common IP) there won't be any notable change unless name servers have to change.
For my dedicated IP clients they will be issued new dedicated IP addresses for the new server?

| This shouldn't be an issue if the data center staff know what they are doing, our staff does this on a weekly basis.

| New dedicated IP addresses may be issued it really depends on the provider / data center.
You provider should be able to migrate the accounts with minimal downtime if any.
Make sure you have a good set of backups on your local drive before any migrations starts.

| cPanel has tools for migrating accounts from one server to another. Downtime will be minimum if your web host really knows how migrate everything properly.

| If your upstream provider knows what they are doing then you should have no issues or worries. They should have root access to both servers so this will make it very smooth and hassle free to do the migration. You shouldn't see that much downtime at all. It should be a fast and very clean move. Most data centers do things like this every week you may be in good hands especially if they offered to switch your server which is a very nice thing they could do for you sins you've been running into minor turbulence.

| Like others have mentioned already, if they know what they are doing, it is an easy task.
But, remember that there will always be some little issue when moving but this can easily be fixed and adjusted.

| autumnwalker if you're moving to a server in the same DC and on the same network, an IP change might not be required at all. Even if it is required the transition should be smooth as long as your clients are using your NS values to point their domains. Hopefully your provider is using a DNS cluster, that helps with server changes as well.

| No big deal if you use clustered dns.
Ask your host how would they transfer and if there is any action required on your end. It's better to transfer during weekend.

| Move was executed overnight on Thursday; went pretty smoothly, but as said, here were a few little issues related to IP. I have several dedicated IPs associated with my account and they had to be reassigned (new IPs) as well as having to reinstall the SSL certificates with the new IPs setup.
Otherwise, super smooth and my clients didn't even notice a transition other than much faster response time on their websites.
