Could you give me any feedback about reseller hosts?

Posted by lonnie_pt, 08-05-2013, 01:36 PM
Hi! I'm new to the forums but actually not very new to reseller hosting plans. I am really unsatisfied with the provider I have now and am searching other providers to migrate all my clients' accounts. I'm actually in between some providers and could use an opinion. My current provider is giving me so many headaches.. the server is always up and down and i've lost clients over it. i've lost a database, the server is down for longer that acceptable (hours sometimes) and a lot of times actually.. So i really need a stable host. This is my primary demand. It needs to be stable and have good uptimes. Another thing, it must include (or at least provide for an additional cost) WHMCS and provide a domain reseller account (like enom... or others). I would need for now around 100 GB of space and speedy access to the sites (and min. of 500 GB of bandwidth). The money is not really a priority because what i really want is a stable server, but would like to be around 30$-40$ per month. Also, I was looking at UK providers (cause i'm from Portugal), but if other providers can give me the same service I'm happy to hear your opinions! Lastly.... my list of options.. :-) - ezpzhosting (but i've seen a lot of complaints about their downtime lately) - hostdime - webhostingbuzz - veerotech - a2hosting - arvixe What do you think? Thanks for your help.. I would really like to choose right this time! :-)

Do you actually need 100GB storage or do you need to allocate 100GB? Regarding the domain reseller, take a look at http://reseller.netearthone.com or http://resell.biz - both are low-cost options that would allow you to resell directly rather than via your host. Not really 100GB per se, but I need around real 80GB, so I'm choosing some that permit up to 100 GB, and then if I need some more I'll upgrade. And what do you think about my options for providers? Thanks

I've used EZPZHosting and Webhostingbuzz reseller accounts in the last year of so. EZPZ never managed to grab any end-user tickets, though at the time they were switching software. Currently I have a small reseller account through one of their resellers (srv19) which is often slow, perhaps related to the quite high load? Webhosting buzz, in the UK, have fast servers and their support is usually pretty good, sometimes I need to explain myself but that might well be me rather than them. The only other negative for me is that they have quite a lot of channels - tickets, live chat, phone(?), forum, blog, status blog, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc... My tip would be subscribe to the status blog and use the live chat/tickets. I've upgraded to a dedicated server now, so quite happy with their service on the whole. Hope that helps, good luck with the search.

What types of sites are you looking to host & what is your current resource usage? Perhaps I can help with any questions you have about VeeroTech Systems..

Since you had your account with us we've made vast improvements to the end user support system. It now uses the WHMCS API to handle tickets and response times are down. I've checked SRV19 and the loads are fine, I've gone back 72 hours in our monitoring and it hasn't been about 7.5 on a 16 core server. If you're having issues it's best to contact your reseller and they/we'll investigate.

Thanks Jon. We're really pleased with the performance of our UK network. Point noted about the overwhelming number of support channels and we already have some changes planned for the WebHostingBuzz site to better explain what each channel is for.

I have a good experience with webhostingbuzz. So, I would suggest you to check them.

SO many companies are under your consideration. I think you are able to find reviews of them on this forum. Make a search.

Grab a few names of the web hosting providers you really like and run something like a contest. Also compare their reviews on various forums and various review sites.

Bom dia I had a bad experience with a2hosting once maybe they have improved. Att Admin, How about a voting system that way we can see what hosts come out best.

I used HostDime's subsidiary, Surpass Hosting (same DC, same support folks, but support options are slightly more limited). I had a forum that was really too busy for reseller hosting, so I only stayed there a month or two. But, the experience was very good while I was there. Quick, friendly support from workers in their offices in Florida, ticket response times in the 10 minute range, great customer forums with HD technicians chiming in to help. Others you might consider: I currently have a reseller account at MDDhosting.com which has been very good. Overall, they are a great company who are EXTREMELY open about what is happening on their servers, and pro-active in communicating planned upgrades (even if the upgrades normally go smoothly without any downtime). Support is fast and they are knowledgeable. The other reseller host I was at for seven years was Dathorn.com; the fastest ticket response times ever; I don't think a single ticket of mine took longer than 10 minutes throughout the 7 years. If my needs hadn't outgrown reseller hosting at the time, I would still be there. I may go back. They are no for neophytes, as they don't hesitate to tell you if its your problem and not theirs, but the community forums were a good place for advice.

100GB you might be good on a reseller until you need more than I think you'd be good with a VPS. I've not used any of them however I've used CrocWeb before, so I recommend them. I'm from the UK but CrocWeb are from Canada, but I had good speeds, Good Luck.

VPS, Cloud or a small fully managed dedicated is not a bad choice to start out, affordable and its your server and you have full control.

I used Veerotech currently. Excellent host. Brent (the owner) is also a participant online, and communicates with customers. - Hostdime is good. - I use Arvixe for a shared plan, and it's good. There's also some other good ones like Stream101, MDD, and Stablehost. There's a number of really good reseller hosts, and many of them are WHT members hosts.

For 80GB of actual quality space and all the resource usage it may command, you might be pushing it for a shared product, at any price. Perhaps take a look at TSO - their Ultimate + a reseller add-on might suffice for you (~ $45/m). Beyond that, though, I think WebNet is probably on the right track by suggesting a managed virtual server of whatever flavor or variant you prefer. FutureHosting might work for you (well reviewed on the forum) -- they and those like them will probably set you back $60-75/mo by the time licenses for WHMCS, etc. are all factored in. Just trying to look out for your best interests, of which I'm sure you're doing for your clients in turn.

A good reseller account will outperform a VPS every time. the real trouble is finding a good one. The trouble with reseller servers is that accounts get added by resellers who don't have quality controls, and then you get blacklisted and other things happen to the box, soon it is abused and overloaded, bloated and slow. If you go the reseller route, try and get with a big host on a good cloud server that can handle all the extra stress reseller accounts bring. OR try a semi-dedicated server. You might find another host on these boards who will share a server with you and split the fee. VPS is another way to go. If you use a VPS, there are many reviews here. Good Luck, I hope you find what you need.

I was thinking something similar. The OP might want to consider having multiple reseller accounts... One of the main benefits being that you can spread your accounts/clients out over multiple servers, either within one host, or multiple hosting companies.

Doh! - Forgot that obvious solution! Good addition, Scott! Plus it would allow for a bit of maneuverability should any one provider have major issues, etc.

Sounds like a good solution to me.

Thank you so much for all of your responses.. I think I really have to consider some opinions you gave me. And thank you all for reviews on some of the providers I was thinking about. It's really good to feel that our doubts are taken seriously and you have given me some ideas to consider in more depth. As for the reseller or VPS, right now I was really considering reseller, as I am still gaining experience and am not really a big professional about this.. still learning.. so I'm a little scared of a VPS.. :-)

If more providers were aware of their limitations this industry would be MUCH better. I think you made the right choice for you. Good luck.

Try to take a look at the reseller hosting offers, theres a lot that suits your needs.

Posted by mdrussell, 08-09-2013, 04:09 AM
Wasn't the OP looking for recommendations and feedback on his list?

Posted by brysonems, 08-09-2013, 04:22 AM
Quoted from OP: My opinion is that TS should take a look at the reseller hosting offers because there he'll see a lot more providers which werent listed in the choices.

Thank you Kpmedia for your recommendation, glad to see you are satisfied with your hosting with us . Over the past couple months we have actually been making huge strides & improvements to our reseller offering.

I think I'm down to two providers... HostDime and a2Hosting. Mostly because of the SSD availability and for what I've been seeing I think they appear to be reliable. What do you all think? Thank you for all the responses I've been getting.

Posted by instantaccess, 08-09-2013, 12:12 PM
Using the Blitz platform to test both companies, a2hosting edges out Hostdime... all other things being equal, I'd go with a2hosting, but I've never used either of them, I'm only going by my personal experience in running the test for speed from my location.

Thanks for your recommendation!
