Need Reseller hosting to replace imploded EIG(HG)
Posted by WeManageIT, 08-03-2013, 10:09 PM |
With the implosion of EIG (HG) I need to replace my reseller server there.
Currently have a Aluminum Reseller and looking to replace that level:
Full LAMP - 100% Linux PHYSICAL SERVER!
PEAR
CGI
Perl
CPanel/WHM
Imagemagik/GD
IonCubeloader
Zend Loader
SpamAssasin
Horde
WHMCS License on at least 1 domain included, preferably, or upto $5/month
secure ftp ftps or sftp for client uploads if client doesn't have an SSL cert, then the generic cert of th server is used
Apache 2.4.x or better with PFS security enabled and setup,
BEAST Mitigated for above
Generic Server wide SSL cert
100% FULL MANAGED.
Full 100% SSH ACCESS
FULL 100% SSH ACCESS ALL RESELLER CLIENTS by default, can disable via WHM Package if I choose per packages, I can even live with it if I have to enable it in my packages v. default on.
EMail with default SSL/TLS for POP3/IMAP and INCOMING SMTP!
meaning that my clients can use SSL/TLS on POP3/IMAP to SECURELY DOWNLOAD EMAIL! SECURE SMTP should be offered and preferred over standard plain text SMTP. I actually would prefer it if NON SSL/TLS POP3/IMAP was DISABLED! I would love to do the same for SMTP but that doesn't seem to be the default for most right now.
Transfer of existing clients, including DEDI IP and SSL customers.
EAST COAST DATA CENTERS
NO FLORIDA DC's! ! ! ! EVER NEVER! When some hurricane blows that area off the map again, I don't want to be involved.
BACKUPS, OFF SITE, WEEKLY.
Support:
Ticket system, response in 30 mins or less
Phone
Forums
NO )@(*$!)(*$)!*$) chat systems!
LINUX ONLY HOSTS! ! ! NO hyper-v!
I've looked through several threads here.. but I need input to avoid another mess like EIG....
Thanks.

Your requirements are not difficult to fulfill. I suggest you to look at offers forum first, short list the providers and ask here about the hosts. Through this way, you will find a better host no doubt.

So whats your budget for this exactly?

Thanks, but I am looking for input from users using the hosts.
Too many ads "look great" or sites look good, but are crap hosts.
EIG (HG) looks good, and no where are you going to find out about the implosion there or the changes to its DC's etc...
Additionally MY REQUIREMENTS are not the basic ho hum rum drum
Example:
Apache 2.4.x or greater with PFS Security ENABLED BY DEFAULT
Many are not even on Apache, fewer are on Apache 2.3.3 or better which supports PFS, and few, if any probably even have their servers set up to use it or know why to use it.
Email:
Require standard POP3/IMAP disabled
REQUIRE SSL/TLS POP3/IMAP by default
Secure SMTP option, prefer it to insecure standard SMTP.
So getting input from users, ie: suggested hosts is a must.
Users can post I use Super Host, and they support your requirements etc...

Same as EIG (HG) Aluminum Reseller
$25/month
I will consider a minor increases to get
1) Stable host
2) WHMCS for a monthly fee. $5/month, maybe a little more, but not much

A few popular companies to add to your shortlist are:
http://hawkhost.com
http://mddhosting.com
http://stablehost.com (not sure about WHMcs with them).
I've either used the hosts above directly or have managed sites on them with great results. The quotas of these hosts will be much lower than EIG reseller packages, however all three allow overselling of resources vs the allocation based limits of EIG plans. You'd need to calculate your total actual usage to see if these would fit and leave you with room to grow.

I don't think you'll find WHMCS for $5 maybe if you added the $5 to the $25 then you might have a reseller package including it.

With those requirements, you may very well be best suited for a VPS or a managed VPS if you cannot manage it yourself.

Not Apache, Litespeed , which does not support PFS.
Apache, non negotiable.
Too limited and overpriced for me.
Doesn't really appear to be any place to go. Your just screwed over.
Pick a host some issue... doesn't support this, allow that. Overpriced.
Poor reviews: site5, knownhost
hostdime - FL DC only. Now who would be that stupid to put a DC in place that will loose power, fiber cuts, copper cuts after a storm. No way to replenish fuel for gensets

Pretty much the same as your VPS thread. And as far as your "demands" are considered I would quote HostMantis: ""With those requirements, you may very well be best suited for a VPS or a managed VPS if you cannot manage it yourself."

Are these requirements supported on EIG server/ HG old server?
I have a test account with HG which still run PHP 5.2 compiled over a year ago.
You may consider a managed Cpanel vps where you can configure any sofware you need.

Well, I was going to suggest Hostdime/Surpasshosting but then you didnt want Florida hosts. They have superb support, by the way. You should be able to fit 100 sites on a budget-friendly VPS.

Hi WeManageIT,
TurnkeyInternet or Stream101 might be worth a look? And how much of deal-maker/breaker is phone support -- that obviously rules out a lot of options, many of whom are great hosts, despite that one shortcoming.
Beyond that, considering the level of control you're looking for and how evidently adamant you are about particular things, I would suggest you simply bite the bullet, double your budget, pick an awesome fully-managed VPS provider (such as WiredTree, who has phone support) and craft your environment as you see fit. Far be it for me to know if you're business model could handle such a move, but obviously it would give you a killer combination of customization, service and power. Just a thought, one which I'm sure you've mulled over already.

I see some excellent suggestions in this thread...
- Hostdime
- Stream101
- MDD Hosting
- Stablehost
Those are some of my top choices when it comes to resellers. Excellent, all of them.
Yes, EIG is cowplop.

Good Morning WeManageIT!
I just wanted to chime in and say that while I know that is the assumption regarding FL Data centers, we have been running our data center in FL for over 8 years and have weathered many storms without major failures. While Power issues do exist during major storms, having an N+2 power setup with almost 3000 gallons of Diesel fuel on the ready heads off major issues during these storms. In addition, setting up contracts with fuel providers to receive additional fuel second in line after hospitals ensures that we have a continuos supply of much needed diesel. As well as power, our networking infrastructure has weathered every storm that we have had without a single failure or fiber or copper cut. We, as well as the other major data centers in the area, partner with a large amount of varied bandwidth providers who maintain their extensive networks admirably, ensuring safety and security of the fiber they provide.
I just wanted to clear up that thought and wish you the best of luck on your search for a host! Finding a business partner to help your company flourish is an important decision and requires a lot of time and research. It's clear you are going about your search with careful consideration and that will only lead to the best of results once you find that partner.
Have a great day!

Well, further to what Dennis said, apparently BURSTnet, Atlantic, WebNX, HiVelocity, Peak, APYL and above all else Terremark with NAP of the Americas (trafficking 90+% of all routing between N and S America) -- they all must just be idiotic.

If i understand it right, you needed a whmcs too?
Take a look at the reseller hosting offers.

Oh yeah, what about Hurricane Sandy, wasn't that responsible for a MOST of the weather related data center outages in 2012? Yeah. Oh wait, that wasn't Florida ... that was NJ and NY! Never mind. (But seriously, I was with SH for a while and your service was always great).
