Site Migration

A friend told me she used Reliable Penguin http://reliablepenguin.com/ for her site migration. Anyone else ever use them? Just wondering

Nop, never heard them. Are you going to migrate some site?

Yes, I am getting ready to and I am trying to figure out much I can do myself and how much I need someone to do. Rather pay to have it done right.

Kimberly normally hosts will do this for you without a charge. You should contact the managed hosting provider and ask if they would help you move your sites over to your new servers with them and I'm sure they would be more than happy to do so....

It depends on how much is the size of your website, do you have a single domain or there many more domains to move.

Frimon86 is correct and even if they did charge for the migration, I would assume it would be less than hiring a company to do it (if plan you chose was fully managed) for you. Good luck! RavenServers

Actually this company is the one the host recommended to me. Said they could do everything from emails to databases to DNS settings for a flat fee so I don't have to pay hourly tech rates for work. They give you a quote is till you are happy with the move and it is live. I kind of want to use a professional migration company so I can hold someone responsibly if the move goes badly. Of course I have it all backed up but I also know me and I will hit the wrong button. Plus if I do it myself then it will take me forever to remember how to park a domain name. Then on one set there is like 45 sub-domains. I think this is probably who I will use unless the quote is unreasonable which I get on Monday.

I have one very huge site with three MySQL databases. This huge site has like 40 plus sub-domains. Then I have to small site they can ftp in the new host in about 15 minutes for both sites. Then I have several parked and 30 some email address. I probably could do a lot of this myself but I rather just have pay someone who knows what they are doing. Make them legal responsible for the move. I want to be able to scream, you screwed up - you fix it!!! I have legal docs to prove you have to fix it.

Are these sites of yours on cPanel server or some other control panel?

If there are only few accounts to be transfered, most of the hosts will do that for minimum charges. If you are transferring to a new ded server, make sure it a managed one.

Nope never heard about them why don't you search on WHT for some server management company I have seen lots of review good and bad of many companies. Search for some good one to do this job.

I decide to have that company move it. I have a few things I like fixed anyway and they can cover that to.

Please keep us posted as to how it goes and their levels of service - it may help someone running a search for the company in the future

Try to search some managed server providers and ask them if they can do it or not, if they can, you can save your money to spend on http://reliablepenguin.com/ thanks

I hope they will not give you a chance to scream.... and the migrations is done smoothly.
