Server load balancer advise
Posted by LargeServer, 02-09-2015, 11:28 AM |
Hello,
Could anyone suggest an inexpensive server load balancer equipment that would do load balance for 2 server (http).
If you can also provide a rough cost for the equipment that would be great.
Thanks for the help!

Nginx or HAProxy would be good software solutions for this. Research those two products and just meet their minimum product requirements for hardware.

HAProxy is great indeed. You can run it on two nodes and use keepalived to failover your public IP for redundancy.

Another vote for HA proxy.. best is to find an SSD provider that offer private networking .. build your own .. using some tutorials.. if you provide required resources we can provide you expected costs...

I always thought Load-Balancers were hardware based...
What is the difference between hardware and software load-balancers as far as performance and scalability?

Many hardware based load balancers are a x86 server with a load balancer software on it. Performance is great, if not better because you can tweak it as you see fit to DIY it yourself. +1 you could just use varnish as a load balancer and cache all of your frontends all at once.
