best and least expensive security and malware removal company?
Posted by MonteVesubio, 01-02-2015, 11:08 PM |
a couple of things where you could help me
1/ I'm looking for a good security website that protects sites against hackers before the act, and once they've hacked the site, to clean it
2/ I want to learn about how to do what companies like sucuri do, how hard is it? anyoen knows?
Im considering sucuri but Ive read some not very good reviews, what company can do about the same things and is not too expensive? any names better than sucuri? in fact, whats your opinion of sucuri?
cheers

Hi MonteVesubio,
Can you please explain bit clear.
Are you looking for full server or certain websites scan.

MonteVesubio do understand that all 3rd party anti-malware softwares do have their limit. Security should begin at what you are hosting and where.
If you are using a 3rd party script, make sure to patch/update it regularly.
If it is a custom script, have an ethical hacker test it.

thanks guys, I see I have to provide a bit of context to my question and make some clarifications
Basically Id like to offer a service for my clients for cleaning their websites of any malware and hacking they've got. The cleaning itself would do it a service like sucuri, and then Id deal with them directly so my clients dont have to do that part of the work.
Ive recently had a lot of problems with hacking, not just my site but some of my clients, so its important to solve this issue with a very reliable and hopefully not too expensive company

As mentioned before you need to start from bottom with server security. Cheapest option if you run business - decent sysadmin. When you set up all from scratch securely, isolate clients(cloudlinux, containers etc.) and configure updates - you are 99% safe and shouldn't be hacked at least frequently. Even if its shared WordPress hosting. Send customers email with steps how to secure their website. Usually they will miss some simple things like strong password and updates. As for malware removal/ hacking - investigate how it got in , tell customer, reinstall and restore from backup. I would not trust removal in billion years.

They use their own web application firewall rules to protect websites from attacks and code injection.

Run a secure server (firewall,mod_security, suhosin, etc) than configure them properly and you should be fine.

I was hoping another company could do the securing because I lack the expertise and time to do it myself, thats why Id prefer to have a company like sucuri do it for me, but sucuri has mixed reviews, so I hoped for similar recommendations.
eventually Id like to do it myself, especially, to fix sites that have already been hacked, even if they arent my current clients, so I can offer them to clean for them.
basically I still need:
1/ a good and affordable company that fix hacked websites
2/ learn how to do what sucuri does (for this I'll make the time to learn it)
thanks

For learning purposes you can explore tools like maldet, rkhunter, Vega, aide, wpscan, lynis - these are for detection, vulnerability research. Then iptables (or their front ends like cfs), fail2ban, modsecurity - these are for prevention. Basic tools but will give you all you need if configured right. Cyberciti.biz have lots of good simple tutorials for hardening applications and sys components.

I am too locking for Web Hosts, that provide cheap sucuri services, as compared to their retail plan of 99.9$ Antivirus from Sucuri.
These are the host I have found yet:
Site5
Aspiring Host
canadianwebhosting
I am still looking for other host providers.

If your websites are hacked offen why don't you spend some money to pay a coder to fix the bad code/plugin, etc I guess it will be best solution.

sitelock is the best to protect your websites from Malware, XSS, Bot Attacks & protect your site from Google warning, it works on any server environment. Also it reduce chance of hacking.

wow, very expensive too. sucuri is a lot more economical and has great reputation, personally I still pick sucuri., though I hoped there could be an even cheaper solution out there

sitelock is available at $20 per year, how much sucuri is ??

I must be missing something, the cheaper sitelock plan I can see is 99 per month

I have used many of them and i have found sucuri to be the best. We have planned for 100+ sites so it prices us less then $20/site / month
Having said that just having these services is NOT enough . Shells can still be placed. What i recommend is run cxs from configserver or run maldet in quarantinee mode it does actively watch file but not for heavy/busy servers

do you have a link from their official website other than this doc? I can't seem to find this from the pricing plans menu

I was about to post question about scuri as well but considering I am evaluating my options perhaps I can comment too.
I found sucuri.net guys to be very knowledgeable about LAMP vulnerabilities (minus Linux part which they don't cover). Reading their blog is a good source of getting info on malwares and it seems they know their stuff!
I also noticed they are focused on common CMS: WP,Joomla, Drupal, Vbulleting, etc which is a bonus for those of that use these.
$10 a month of WAP by sucuri get you CloudProxy -> which acts as proxy between your server and visitors and virtually filters "bad" traffics, potentially preventing getting hacked in first place!
$99 a year gets you Sucuri Website-Antivirus -> they constantly scan your site for back-doors, malwares, etc and remove them if they find any. It seems this is what you are looking for.
I am going to use this for a friend's website and I will report back, how good they were (I plan to leave malwares and injected codes I identified to see how their system detects these codes!)
Sitelock to me combines few things in one package. You got both CDN, WAP and firewall, with much higher costs. $99 being minimum and that even does not cover some advanced goodies such as WAP (such as virtual patching of vulnerabilities or blocking of malware bots!). So for my situation they were not the answer, hence stopped look into details.

interesting experiment, please keep us updated
I'm in the same boat about sitelock, they're really expensive (the plans the user a few posts above mentions are nowhere to be found on their official page, or at least I couldn't, apólogies to the user if those plans are in fact there, but I cannot make an invisible purchase), and less well known than sucuri.
