Can't see transmitting traffic with any tools

I can see the receiving/downloading traffic perfectly fine with both vnstat and nmon but the transmitting/uploading traffic is always 0.
The only tool that allows me to see the transmitting traffic is iftop. Is it possible to somehow configure either the NIC or vnstat/nmon and have them show the transmitting traffic?

Try iptraf to find the host that is transmitting/receiving. Use tshark to see the packets.

I'm not able to see the transmitting and downloading traffic in Mbps with iptraf.
The main question is why vnstat isn't able to pick the traffic up.

Is vnstat enabled for the interface you need monitored? Take time to read the man page of vnstat and test the interface with debug mode.
