Posted by HRR--, 11-19-2014, 12:06 AM I remember the past year there was a thread in relation to a vulnerability that could be used to exploit the cpanel restore backup system. How are you guys exactly restoring securely users full backups? Do you take the risk or break down the backup zip and restore manually each part? Last time I checked cPanel was still working on a new backup restore system.
Posted by JLHC, 11-19-2014, 03:01 AM What we do is to scan through each backup file to detect if there's any Symlinks within it before we perform the restore. That should be good enough for you to detect whether there's any malicious Symlinks in the backup.
