Relying on Semoweb reseller hosting

Posted by Jad_Am, 06-21-2011, 12:29 PM
Hi, I have a reseller account with semoweb. Just read good reviews about them and got a special package while they were offering affordable reseller plans. Basically, I design and host sites for client projects that are mostly WP CMS based. Today I tried to connect to the FTP server and it did not work for 30 minutes. I got timeout each time. Nor did the several web based services like net2ftp connected. Don't get me wrong. This is not a bad review or something. The site I had hosted was loading fine. Only I couldnt access FTP or cPanel. I raised a ticket and it was replied to within 2 hours. They said some users were abusing the servers and they have been suspended. The issue was resolved within 3 hours which is pretty good. But since I had a client using the hosting, he was cursing me about the delay. The question is: Are any of you using semoweb for your clients and have you had any issues? I'm asking this because my design business depends on semoweb. And can this server abuse incident happen often again or be prevented? Please let me reiterate that I'm not writing a negative review. Semoweb has a lot of good reviews and I have not read anything bad about their service. It's just these questions I had. Additionally, my site was not down. Only backend connectivity (FTP and cPanel) was shortly unavailable.

Hello, Sorry for the connection issue you have faced we do have multiple servers so which server are you referring to which had issues?

Dustin, is there a reason I always have to wait 6+ hours to get a response ticket from you, but i see you posting on WHT non-stop? I use to be patient, knowing you're still not a top-tier provider yet I understand 1-2 hour response times, but it's starting to get a little long...please let me know what's going on. Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I believe it was Server 9 and I have a private nameservers package which I got a few months back on promotion.

I actually just got in to be honest and after reading on my iPhone some keywords I decided to go here first rather than our help desk as we have techs and if something is flagged to me it doesn't get a response so quick unfortunately. Do you have a ticket number?

Hello, Ok and within those other months have you faced issues like this? If you have I'd be more than happy to move you to a newer server how ever I don't think its been a common issue how ever I will wait for your reply as I want you happy.

I have not used the account for a long time but I just paid for it monthly because I knew I would need it later. I used it today for the first time. Do you think the newer server will not be prone to such abuse incidents? My sites won't be that heavy..like not more than 20 - 30 visits per day I guess.

Jad_Am, To be honest its not a common daily issue for ftp to have an outage. As for your question every server is prone to abuse there will always be someone who abuses the servers with any provider we try our best to monitor and keep things flowing but some times its happens. If you notice another issue and you would like to move to a newer server just open a ticket and we will take care of you. @Patrick I found it and responded already.

Nothing against SemoWeb, it's really one of the better budget webhosts. But if your business depends on webhosting you maybe should think about paying USD 10-20 more per month to get a reseller account with excellent performance and excellent support. Things you usually can't expect from a budget webhost, even SemoHost is doing quite well. Tom Tomson

That is true Tom, but I'm currently working for local clients and they don't pay much and haven't started getting enough projects yet. Though you are right, I will upgrade as soon as I have around 10 - 15 permanent clients.

You are right. OP@ Semoweb is a good budget reseller provider and you can can't expect much more then you are paying them. If you need something more than you should have to raise your budget and you will definitely find something more good.
