Updating New IP on OpenVPN

Posted by Promex, 09-21-2014, 08:16 AM
Hello, I have an OpenVPN set-up on a CentOS VPS. Recently, the ISP has changed all VPS's IP address, thus I would have to update the OpenVPN config file with the new IP address. I have tried searching on guides to update OpenVPN IP address, but I'm unable to get any helpful results. (Most of which are Update OpenVPN Access Server IP, setting up OpenVPN etc) Can anyone guide me on the steps required to change the IP Address and also regenerating the new Clients Connection file? Regards

If you will not have more than 2 concurrent users, I suggest that you switch to OpenVPN Access Server. The free license covers 2 concurrent users. It is easy to change the IP address in OpenVPN AS after you log onto the Administrative area. My initial plan was to use OpenVPN but apparently it has issues and I switched to OpenVPN Access Server.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, the VPN will have more than 2 concurrent connections since I have multiple devices connecting to it. While, OpenVPN Access Server might be user friendly due to it's UI, I still prefer the flexibility from OpenVPN. Anyone able to help me out here? Regards

Update: Apparently my host "assisted" clients with the IP migrations by running a command/script which searches and replace the old IP with the new IP. (Kind of interesting, what command did they run to search and replace?) However, after updating the IP, OpenVPN is unable to start. I tried starting it via and it will give a positive result indicating Ok. However when I checked the status, it shows that OpenVPN is not started. What am I missing out? When I tried connecting to OpenVPN, I can't even get any results since OpenVPN is not running and the log files ain't showing anything helpful. (Feel free to advice which logs I should be looking at) Did the IP migration via search and replace broke the installation? Or do I have to regenerate the certs etc? Any ideas?
