migrating existing customer's domain name(s) to your company (reseller account)

Hello, I'm new here, and this forum has been great for a noob like me.
I currently do website design on the side, and I also have a few websites of my own. I have decided to get a reseller account to offer hosting to my customers, as well as centralize the management of my sites. Before I sign up I have a question about migrating customer accounts to my hosting company to be.
Moving files, databases and such seems pretty cut and dry. My questions are about how domain names are handled in the migration process.
Most "big" hosts offer free domains for the life of the account, and I would like to offer the same. I assume that the price of domain name renewal should then be incorporated into my hosting plan rates. Is the domain name renewal somehow automatically handled in WHMCS? Domain names are usually registered for multiples of a year, so what happens when I migrate a customer of another provider to my company in the middle of the 12-month registration period?
I do not completely understand the process. Any pointers or links would be greatly appreciated.
Thx!

Yes Domain renewal and registration can be handled by WHMCS if you have a domain reseller setup on your WHMCS. You can't migrate user from one domain reseller to another but you can transfer user from one registrar to another registrar at any period of time. Yes there will be charges. As for files/database migrating, leave it to your host to do it for you, bear in mind not all host offer free migrations.

If you transfer the domain from another registrar it will usually cost the regular registration fee and also include a year of registration along with it.

Best bet would be to change the nameservers on the domains to point to you until they are closer to renewal.
It's pointless shelling out money now just so they are handled from within whmcs. Make sure to set yourself some calendar dates for the renewal time, then hand them to your domain reseller account when the time comes.
Best of luck either way

When these "big" hosts offer a free domain name, whose name are they putting as the Owner (of domain) - the hosting provider, or the customer?
I've seen some hosting providers put the domain in the provider's name -- I suppose as a way to lock the customer into their services...
