SSL On Shared Accounts.

Hi, I have a question. Before as I bought a reseller plan, I was on a shared plan with my site(s). That's mean I was a normally shared hosting customer. I bought a SSL certificate and installed it on my shared account without any problems. The SSL was issued for my domain like www.domain.xx, and it was working perfect and without any browser errors, sure the URL looked like https://domain.xx. Now I own a a reseller hosting package by one provider and here is the problem what I don't understand: My shared customers can't use their own SSL certificates on their accounts, unless their buy a dedicated IP from me. The support told to me it's not possible to be work without a dedicated IP and they couldn't understand why it was working by the company where I was a shared customer. P.S. I'm talking about 2 different companies, that's mean my reseller account is not by the same company as my previous shared account. Can somebody explain to me what is the problem that my customers can do it and why was it working on my previous shared account? Thanks.

I think for SSL to work you will need a dedicated IP for the IP address that the reseller accounts are on. Your clients may also need to reissue their SSL cert for it to work with the new IP address.

That might be the problem that my resseler account is on an IP with other resselers, then I will not be abel to use a dedicated IP for my resseler package, right?

You need to ask your host for a dedicated IP - then you should be able to use an SSL properly.

I undrestand you, but can my customers (on the same dedicated IP) install their SSL too?

Are they on different cpanel accounts? (assuming it's cpanel) - if they are and your cpanel account shows your IP as a "dedicated ip" then you should have no problem. Otherwise you would need another IP just for your account.

You should never install a cert on a public ip address that is shared. Its easier just to pay a few bucks a month for a dedicated ip address. Some providers may give you one for free. Private site certs for individual websites MUST have a dedicated ip. Dom

indy, It honestly sounds like your shared hosting account may have come with a dedicated IP!? As far as I know in order to install an SSL cert (via cpanel anyways) the domain MUST be on a dedicated IP address.

I had an shared account on Letshost.ie and the account was on a shared IP as usually by shared accounts, then I installed my private SSL in my cPanel and it was working without errors.

If you need your own SSL then dedicated IP is definitely required for this.

Thanks to all for your replies. But how did it work in Letshost case on my shared account?

Did you buy the SSL certificate at Letshost? If so, every purchase already includes a dedicated IP:
