Reseller server crashes - stay or run away
Posted by michalexpromo, 11-17-2009, 11:12 AM |
Hello to everyone!
I have a reseller account at 1 Euro Hosting - 1euro-hosting (dot) eu and I have really mixed feelings about it.
When the server works it works REALLY fine and I mean soo fast - it's a pleasure to work on it.
But almost everday for the last week the server crashed (different hours, no patterns).
After talking to the owner and also admin of 1 Euro Hosting (this is a 1 person company) he informed me that:
a) They had DDOS attacks that caused the crashes (all of the crashes started with out of memory php errors)
b) They hired a 25 EURO / h specialist to configure the server so that it wont' crash
c) The issue should soon be gone
d) The server is an OVH server (??) - this doesn't tell me anything
I'm starting a new project in a few days and I have everything configured on this server. I wounld't like to move both my customers in the future so if I will run I have to run now.
So here are my questions:
- Is there a good way to monitor how the hosting works with both uptime and PHP memory accesibility
- Do you have any experience with 1-person companies selling Reseller accounts or maybe even with this company in certain
- If I should change hosting company what would you recommend for reseller with WHM and cPanel (my project is configured for this package)
Thanks in advance for any info guys
Best regards

Their costs are really really low, that might have something to do with the quality.
That being said, talk to them about it and try to sort it out first. Give them the chance to make it right. How long has it been since you first brought it to their attention?
For your other questions:
- Try pingdom (or similar).
- 1-person is not always a bad thing if they have their own monitoring services. Also a fall back plan in the event they die or get hospitalized or something.
- There are plenty around on WHT, with plentiful reviews as well. Though give your current provider a chance to make it right.
Also make regular backups just in case.

Thanks for the info I will configure pingdom to monitore the uptime
I would be really happy to see this workout as I spent a lot of time configuring everything on that server.

That's probably one of the best reasons to give them a chance to work it out. Migrating is just one more thing you will have to worry about. In most cases its not that bad, but why worry when you don't have to.
Best of luck.

every day for a week is bad, but if they are promising a better environment, it's up to you to give them a chance. How long have you been with them?
As for monitoring I'd also recommend pingdom, and I hear hyperspin is good although I've never used them. I still use pingdom and it's great.

Im very sorry for the downtime tough, but we have been facing loads of DDOS this week on our node where are reseller accounts. We are working on it and solving it best as we can.

Altough there weren't any downtime which we are monitoring with pingdom and hyperspin + with soft on server, NODE hasn't gone down at all, but this client insists that's sites are down... he cryed upon the 2 min restart at 3.00 am

Just make a screenshot of website status check and send to your client as proof.

Might be worth getting him to do a trace route if the site is down and when it is up to see if you can spot where his issues may lye.
