My review of hostnine, mkoh and crucialp

Posted by blacktulip, 06-04-2009, 07:00 PM
Last month I was looking for a reseller package. I dug WHT a lot trying to get the right one. Hostgator and Site5 both have good reputation and suitable plans for me. The one thing stopped me is that the ThePlanet datacenter does not have good connection speed in the area I aimed for (that is, Mainland China). So I turned to other providers. The first company I considered was innohosting. It has a lot of good reviews and its datacenter is on west coast. I almost went for it. But the diskspace innohosting provides is really too small comparing to others. And its price is not friendly enough either. Also, innohosting does not provide SSH access. It is for the security, I know. But this may be an issue for some of my clients. So I kept looking and looking. I found out that Hostnine has its offshore reseller servers in Singapore. I was quite glad because those servers are geographically closer to my clients and usually that means better speed. So I went ahead and signed up for one. Everything went well until I tried to open a test account on SG server. Then I found that the IP address is completed blocked from China. After this I googled a bit and am acknowledged that all hostnine SG servers are blocked from China. I was stunned. Bascially Hostnine is a good company and its plans have a reasonable price with promotions. Its support has good respond speed as well. And its self-developed reseller panel is not bad as somebody said. I found no difficulties with it. If its not for the blockage thing I would have stayed with hostnine. But you know, It's not hostnine's fault. I really liked the fact that I would be able to decide my clients' accounts' physical location. That said, I still have to leave hostnine. So I asked for a refund. It's quite straight away. Hostnine fully refunded me without any questions. This make me liked it more. It's a pity. So I would rank hostnine a good hosting company -- although I am not able to stay with them. The next one I went to was mkoh (my kind of host). To tell the truth, It was only because the $44.95/year promotion. The next day, its server went down for a long time. And I said to myself, well, you get what you paid. However, after that the server never go down again. And the load has been kept very low. I dont know how they do this but I am satisfied. The problem of mkoh is its connection speed. So I did not stop the digging. In another forum I found crucialp. As its running a nice promotion deal, I decided to give it a try. Till now I have not regreted. The connection speed of crucialp's servers is good. And I have not experienced any downtime yet. The most impressing thing is its tech support. They were very helpful and friendly. Most importantly, they reply quick. I can usually get a respond from them in 10-20 minutes, some times 5. crucialp's sales dept on the other hand replys less quick. But also very helpful. Another fact which attracted me is that crucialp's plans included a number of dedicated ips. I dont have to pay extra for them. Of course I have not been with them for a long time. May be a long-time review would be more valueable. I just want to express my first impressions of these companies. If I am going to purchase another reseller plan, which company will I go for? I am very pleased with crucialp. But its servers are all in one datacenter. I want to give my clients more choices. And deep in my heart I still desire west coast datacenters. So...still digging.

It is odd to hear that those Singapore IPs are being blocked by China. Do you know any reason for this?

Thanks for sharing the review. I'm sure many people will find this review useful to help them choosing host. If you look for data center in the west coast, you should consider Softlayer Seattle DC.

If you ask my opinion, I would say Chinese gov is too sensitive. One post or even one keyword they found that they dont like. the ip will be blocked. Of course they also block all adult sites -- or at least they try to

But not those of their own? There are plenty of chinese nude models out there...

Seems there is only one percent of IPs not being blocked.

Thats interesting that MKOH was down the very next day! That happened to me to!! But for me it was because they blocked my IP for both my home AND my work!! So are you saying they have been good since that? I am fearful of them randomly blocking the viewers from my site's for no reason! Only reason I can fathom that they could of POSSIBLY blocked my IP would be because I logged into ftp, whm, and cpanel?!? Right now they have allowed my IP but I cant acccess WHM or CPANEL still those seem to be blocked. I can only access the web site its self wich is blank right now! But I can over look the initial IP blocking if it does not persist or happen to my viewers ect...

Do they give reason why your ip is blocked? Cpanel automatically blocks access when you use wrong password a number of times.
