How to install and configure varnish

| Hello,
Can anybody please help me how to install varnish and configure it? We have WordPress website using W3 Total Cache along with APC, i was reading somewhere to install varnish and configure it with W3 Total Cache plugin for better results.
I have my server with managed hosting company but unfortunately they don't support varnish and they will charge $75 for this task.
Actually we have very large database and server load gets high quite frequently.
Can anybody please guide me step by step?

| OK, Unixy have a plugin for this. You can choose from Nginx + Varnish, or Varnish and Apache I believe.
